In a nut shell, I'm looking for a car that will sit on a motorway effortlessly for mile upon mile, basically a nice saloon/estate, nice big 'comfy' seats and a half decent engine. How ever, it also needs to be good on fuel (petrol or deisel) Iv looked at loads of classifeids and nothing is jumping out at me. Am I missing somthing here? £2500 will be top wack Insurace may be tricky, but i will be 20 by the time i buy somthing Thanks all (the more pictures the better)

Audi A6 2.5tdi? never been in one but should be perfect for what your after.
Or a 5 series but you may struggle to get a decent e39 shape diesel for that money.

Previous shape Skoda Octavia estate with the 1.9 turbo diesel (my NASP is a little lethargic and agricultural lol), but eats up the miles no problems - 270k and counting!

except for the fuel consumption i think my car (which could be for sale soonish) would be perfect for you! 2 litre straight 6 (sounds glorious on full chat), auto and the same seats as you find in your living room! I drove from the south of the Netherlands to Denmark in 1 go (only stopped once for fuel), which was almost 600 miles. Arrived and jumped out of the car and was just as fresh as i was when i left, 10 hours earlier!

You will not find a more comfortable place to be than a V70. I was chatting to a traffic cop once when he pulled me over and was waiting for my insurace details to come through, and he said although the BMW 5-series they ran were faster, and the Range Rovers bigger, they always fought over the V70s because you could spend a whole day in one without getting a sore . My dad ran two of them as company cars and gathered 200,000 across them. Solid 50mpg sat at 70 and more comfortable than our living room.

Another vote here for a modern Volvo. My old workplace had a "pool" car for staff to use. It was a Volvo saloon - might have been an S80? I cant remember now. Anyway, it was a diesel engine and was pretty fast, had every toy you could think of and was superbly comfortable. It got replaced with a Beemer, which was much more bling but had less toys and was pretty rubbish to sit in for long periods in comparison. After that, it was a Skoda Octavia, which was nicer than the BM, but still not a patch on the volvo for interior space and comfort.

Wouldnt reconmend a C5, guy in our office has one......
Actually thinking about it a S80 would be a good choice to, they are very comfy. Infact any Volvo from the v70/s40 shape era had Autopedic (cant spell) seats, which I believe are the only manufacturer to fit seats that are good for you.

The reason my dad had them was because he had a serious back operation and volvos were the only cars with seats that support the correct areas. Its why you don't get back ache, or 'Ford Back' as the specialists refer to it, after driving for a couple of hours. Its a lot to do with the driving position too, you'll find that the seat, steering wheel and pedals are all properly aligned so your back and legs arent twisted while driving. The only other cars we found like that were Subarus!

A Volvo would be a good choice, also a Rover 75 diesel is a very comfortable car.
'Orthopaedic' is the word - Volvo seats are very good for long distances.
