Those of you who attended the gathering may have seen this run. And hopefully got some pictures or video of it. Anyway, this is how I did it. Take 1 cheap RC TVR Tuscan bought on ebay for 99p Remove body and stare at what's left Rip out engine and gearbox Buy plumbing tube from Wilko and build a housing for 2 C6-5 Estes rocket motors Then shove it into the space where the electric motor was, making sure they point ever so slightly upwards to keep the back on the ground Next, turn your attention to the blocked off vents that are moulded into the shell, cutting them out and fitting ducting to channel air Trim off the excess Then cut holes in the back for the motors to stick out Eliminate the massive slack in the axle left by the removal of the gearbox by making plastic washers Add strengthening behind the rocket motors to stop them firing into the car and blowing it up You are now ready to roll. The original plan was to use the power that used to run the motor, however 6 volts wasn't enough, so I had to borrow a 12 volt battery from the lovely folks at Area 52 I'll post pics of the aftermath later

Hoping that somebody filmed it running at the gathering. I was busy trying to keep it in a straight line, and failing. I know why I couldn't steer it though. The steering turned, but the tyres got ripped straight off the rims and it kept going un-altered. It lives to run again, so I can figure out whay it veered to the left Not going to clean it, it looks cool

It was great for the first 20 feet. I laughed hard at the dodging camera fella, who's name I forget.
More next year?

Take the 6V, attach a relay that switches a 12V supply (small 12V you get out of car remote fobs maybe?) attach to rocket motors. Push forward on the RC control, fwoosh On a related note, where did you get the rockets from?

That may well be on the cards. Got the rocket motors from a local model shop.

Finally got pics from BodieandDoyle, and they tell a very interesting tale. The calm before the storm Very interesting behaviour from the car And there it was, gone Have to give some serious thought to the redesign. I thought the front had lifted, but that middle pic tells a different story

Would the going off to the left not be caused by the Rockets not being exactly central?
I think the Amount of thrust + the weight of the car + the size will always give you steering issues, it looked to be just bouncing off any small inperfection on the track, I would of thought It may be better to use a larger model car like a Tamiya Saloon etc, but increase the amount of Rockets.

AWSOME.... I need one of those... I wonder where my RC car is?? I have (of had) a rear steer corolla somewhere.... could be fun!!! Rockets and rear steer....
I think a bit of re-aligning of the motors is needed.... either that or more weight!!
Looks fun though!!!!

One step ahead of you guys. I was planning WMA MK2 as soon as I got back from the gathering. I'd already figured the motors were misaligned and that the next car would need full suspension. The track was pretty lumpy so I',m not surprised it took off. However, the front end does appear to be pointing down, implying that my aerodynamics may have worked a bit to keep the front down. Just not enough for 2 rocket motors. I've already sourced a donor vehicle and the rockets I will be putting in it. These bad boys have twiche the thrust and burn for twice as long. They're the most powerful disposable motors I've been able to find, can't be faffed with re-usable ones www.modelrockets.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=11&products_id=117

Not sure you need the vent in the front, its there for airflow through the rad on the TVR.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

this takes me back. a mate of mine worked in a warehouse where they were throwing out a pallet and a half of old estes model rocket kits and spare engines, we took the lot and needless to say had a lot of fun sticking them to everything we could think of. this included me on a bike with about 20 attatched to the seat post, me on a skateboard with as many as we could fit on the tail and lots of model cars and other junk... we did build a few into actual rockets too. good times... your tvr looks sweet, would be awesome if you can get it to steer too.

I'm gonna try to get it to go in a straight line, just so I can say it works. I've got the next project car on it's way to me. A 4wd tarmac car. I'll be stripping out the motor and gearbox and the diffs and shafts and fitting a suitable retro body shell to it
