hi all quick question need to get a 1.6 cvh back to my house next weekend, about 300 mile trip, was just thinking of putting it in the boot of my rover 25 , but then I thought was that such a great idea? ok so nothing is a good idea with a rover 25 but lets forget the 3 headgasket swaps on the way home, I'm thinking practicality and weight, will the rover take it? obviously a van would be better but I don't have one, id think it would be ok but just thought id check cheers for any info

Its no different to having a couple of fat blokes in the back seat - the car will cope fine. Put down old blankets or an old duvet as no matter how carefull you are, there is always a little oil or coolant that leakes from somewhere when transporting an engine. A couple of old tyres make a good base for it to sit on and wedge it in place, with a ratchet strap or two to hold it down securely.

Ive had a engine, box , struts and steering rack along with lots of other polo bits in the back of my mk2 polo when i broke one in someone elses drive Itll be fine mate... and as said... a cvh is gonna weigh , what , 70-100kg? couple of guys worth aint it.... Obviously in the boot (behind the rear wheels) will look more extreme in the way of lowering .. but if you can place it over the rear axle then itll hardly notice if the rover is stock

yeah should be fine, as has been said even polos don't have problems shifting engines. and an old wheelchair hoist makes it even easier getting them in and out of the car

try to get most of the weight over the rear axle this 2.8 cologne and gearbox travelled 200 miles without incident thanks to a couple of tyres and a bit of rope secured to the rear seat locks

Its no different to having a couple of fat blokes in the back seat what are you implying? ;D cheers for all the answers folks, much appreciated, looks like i wont have much to worry about after looking at some of the pics.... unless i get spend-happy as for the rover i picked it up today after having the head gasket re-bodged and at the moment the steam seems to be staying in the right places, so fingers crossed.....

Tried to put a Ford 351 cleveland V8 and box in the back of my b3 Passat couldt even get it to fit! Had to come back with a trailer..... I managed to get a Oldsmobile 350 in there though and they are HEAVY I struggled to move it when it was on the floor! there's some cracking good pics of the same engine doing odd things to a Subaru Brat's camber somewhere on this forum

Moved a number of Zetecs about in the boot of a car, never had any complaints. Do secure it though, via belts and straps because if you stop suddenly an untethered engine won't!

I recognise that engine, almost ended up powering my viva until i discovered just how HUGE it was ;D I used my old series 3 L-R to collect a rover v8......the engine that ended up going under the bonnet of it Great fun as long as said lump is strapped down or have plenty of padding around it. Steve

It'll be fine. I carried a Ford pre-crossflow in the passenger footwell of my hotrod a few weeks ago. In here, that is: I've also carried them in the passenger footwell and in the boot of my Anglia. Tie it up to something though, otherwise it'll roll around all over the place, as I found out every time I turned left in the rod

well I did it, 400 mile round trip to get my hoard...... all without issue too, the rover behaving itself........ till the second I pulled up on the drive and the clutch cable snapped still at least it happened on the drive and not down those dodgy country lanes down Wiltshire on the way back with some nutter in an "Iceland" delivery truck 3" from my back bumper. spent all day faffing about with a "new" clutch cable trying to get it to function the Haynes book of fairy tales doesn't explain that rover clutch self adjusting mechanisms work via a system of black magic and voodoo it didn't help that the horribly cheap clutch cable I was given by my factors was made by a partially sighted Cinese chap who was working from a photograph, in the end I gave up and went down the scrappy and got a "pre adjusted" one
