1982 Marlin YKC Roadster
Based off of a 1982 Ital 1275 donor, car built in 1992 and registered correctly as a Marlin YKC Roadster
Bought by myself last year as a toy and whilst has been fun I've too many projects on the go and could do with freeing up space so last one in - first one out.
Fun car when you get used to it! Not fast by any means but sprightly and keeps up with modern traffic easily enough, although doesn't have the longest of legs so cruising best kept below 60mph to retain your hearing! The 1275cc A-series engine starts up easily from cold, keeps temperature well and returns half sensible mpg, Gearbox is quiet with no syncro noise unless rushed. Still fitted with its original Spax gas adjustable shocks which work well even now. I have used this in all weathers and at one point was my only car for a few weeks so has been proven a reliable car and surprisingly water-tight inside. Comes with both full wet weather gear and tonneau cover(pictured)
Bodywork is fair given the age, nothing major wrong but paint is tired/scratched and has chipped off in places but pictures make it look better than reality although shines up well and looks very presentable. I've half heartedly attempted to touch up in places but paint match is terrible. Wheels would benefit from a rub down & respray but otherwise fit well with the used look of the car.
Interior is tidy and benefits from an aftermarket Motolita wood-rim steering wheel and Smiths white face gauges along with universal bucket low-back seats. Everything electrical works bar reverse lamp and the heater has been disconnected(motor seized and matrix bypassed)
In the time I've had the car its had the following done:
Brakes front to back serviced/cleaned up along with new stainless brake hoses and a reconditioned master cylinder fitted(supplied by the Marina Owners club)
Budget 165/80 tyres on Ital/Marina 13inch wheels - less than 1500miles use (spare is a remold with good tread but needs resealing as doesn't hold air long)
New distributor recently fitted
Cylinder head has been off to sort low compression on one cylinder due to burnt valve seat(all re-cut and ground in)
New alloy inlet manifold(to go with the fairly new SU carb) and custom exhaust system using a Mini LCB modified for RWD fitment
Lucas P700 replica H4 headlamps
Front lighting circuit rewired and headlamps relayed for better & more reliable night usage
Engine oil & filter replaced less than 1500miles ago - Gearbox oil replaced less than 500miles ago
Fitted a phone holder along with a usb port to charge phone(needs wiring in properly as put on in a hurry for a trip)
Beyond that its just been used as and when I get time! Could do with a little light tuning to get the engine running sweeter and a slight knock investigated going over bumps but otherwise is fit for use as is with plenty of room to improve/modify if you should want to.
Comes with a few boxes of spares/leftovers from donor car, a small luggage rack I intended to fit to spare tyre AND a sheet of aluminium to make a new dash panel & set of used Austin 1300GT gauges I intended to fit as I personally never liked the current setup and missed having a rev counter
Currently MOT'd till September 2024, can't see any issues going through another but I believe the car is now possibly elegible for exemption both MOT & tax so worth keeping that in mind
Also comes with paperwork history including invoices for some parts fitted in the last 10years and original sales brochure and build manual. V5 present and in my name
Can be viewed most evenings/weekends
Car is based in Bath, Somerset BA1
