Following on from the recent thread...
Am I right in thinking that a Cavalier GSi2000 has semi-trailing arm rear suspension, and that all other Cavaliers (except 4x4) had a H frame?
The reason for asking (shameless plug) is that I should have a 4x4 up for sale in a few weeks, and I need to know where to pitch it. Assuming that 4x4 and GSi did share rear suspension layout, I guess that my 4x4 (which is now converted to 2wd) is likely to be of interest to Cav fans looking to build a GSi replica.
Anyone know for sure?

I believe the gsi, gsi 4x4 and 8v 4x4 shared the same rear suspension. I had two 8v 4x4s and they were good motors!

Tbh if your's is not a GSi already then I can't see the attraction to anyone who wants to build a (GSi) replica, unless your's has really tidy bodywork. That's not intended offensively or owt of course. Also with the problematic 4x4 system on these cars I wouldn't really see any value in someone buying it to look like one! If you can get the 4wd system working (my money would be on the notorious transfer box FAIL) then it would be worth a bit more as 4x4 Cavs of all types are really rare now.

don't forget the Cavalier Turbo Also Calibra's used this setup. Typically theres never been huge demand for 8v 4x4 models but IRS Cavs are getting quite rare these days, they rotted like curse word.

I missed a chance of buying a 4x4 Cav years ago, and haven't seen one since. I think they're great, it's like a strange version of a standard car, do you have any piccies?

The 4x4 bits from mine went in a skip many years ago - then converted to 2wd with a 'box from an SRi. It's actually not rusty - a few years ago I grafted in a pair of inner / outer rear arch assemblies that I cut from a better car. I was particularly proud of how well that went.
Will post a couple of photos after the weekend.
The 4x4 fail on mine was almost certainly the transfer box. I believe the 4x4 turbo had a different type altogether, together with 6 speed.

The 8v 4x4's would have used the f20 gearbox as used in the n/a GSi/Calibra 4x4 and as such i expect would have used the same type of transfer box. The turbo's are as mentioned, 6-speed(f28) and I'm sure use the same transfer box as the n/a 4x4 GSi/Calibra 4x4. And before anyone says "they never made a n/a 4x4 GSi or Calibra"......they did but are rare as a rare thing these days as not many were sold Steve

They certainly did make a 4x4 Cavalier. Rare because most were converted to 2WD when the transfer boxes went ping. Also they had to have matching tread depths on the tyres all round so things kind of got expensive if you had a blowout.

Not 100% sure about that - it comes with a space saver as standard so they can't be too fussy about rolling circumference. All 4x4s will suffer to a certain degree of course.
