Morning All,
Just thought I'd post up my new project. I had these cars when I was in my late teens/ early twenties ( I had 3 in total but one was a spares car) - so in the mid to late 90's. Mid life crisis has now ensued and as a result I find myself being an active memebr of the owners club, helping to redesign thier site & forum and then driving from West Yorkshire to Epping in Essex to pick this gorgeous specemin.
I think this was advertised on here, but got pulled because the seller started asking for offers after he had stated a for sale price.
He was actually advertising for his sister and I suppose he was just trying to make sure she got as much as she could for it. Lucky for me that once I got to his sister she was a lovely lady who wanted the car to go to a good home, which it has! ;D
These are some pictures from the for sale thread on our forum:
Better image of the car as a whole.
Front lower wheel arch, sill, passenger door side.
Condition of rear seat, no mould, damp or anything just a bit dusty.
Rear wheel arch passenger side.
Drivers seat, passenger seat is even better.
Interior shot of dash, seats, carpets etc.
Shot from rear of car to front passenger side.
Well, I went to see this car this afterrnoon:
Met Lesley, A lovely woman who has owned the car since 1987 and was clearly very attached to it. She took it off the road on 98 as stated because her husband bought her a BMW (which she still drives) The plan was always to get the Kadett back on the road , but it just never happened. Now she is emigrating to Canada to spend more time with her Sons so the Kadett has to go, I could see she really didnt want to let it go
We opened the (front) Garage door for the first time in 12 years, (honestly) to reveal the beast:
And I was happy  It had been ziebarted from new (remember that?) which meant that whilst the engine bay and boot are all a nasty matt black, the rust is nill!!, It's also all good underneath!!. Few small areas to look at but for a 31 year old car, she's all good!
Engine still turns over by hand so hopefully can be recommssioned. Will take a bit of work on the mechanicals but I might try and get it on the road for the summer!
So I'm happy to say we agreed a price and the car is mine!!!!!
I gotta tell you I'm over ther moon, and rest assured, its gonna be a keeper this one
And this is the collection story:
Ok, well its been a couple of months since I put my deposit down, but she is finally home!!. Here are some pics:
Used my old mans 4x4 to collect with my cousins trailer and took a couple of my mates to help shift it out of the garage:
Started off at 8am, stopping off for brekkie, then arrived at the car at 1pm. Lesley was really nice, we had brews and bacon butties ready when we arrived, quality
Pushed it out a little then put some fresh air in the tyres to make life easier
Few pics once it had been 'unearthed'
Then got it up on the trailer:
Underneath is sound. Exhaust has rotten and steering rack boots perished:
And me with Lesley, the woman who has owned since 1987!
Eventually set off home at 3:15, for a run up the M1. Took it to a car wash down the road from Lesleys to get 12 years of dust & curse word sprayed off
Also stopped off in Derby to meet Alymac who gave it the once over and the verdict is ......................... 'its solid' (don't get too enthusiastic then Aly    )
The only real rot is on he bottom of the drivers door. There area few surface rust spots all over the body from storage, but it should look a lot better adter a session with T-cut. Will get a full respray next year.
Little bit of Drama 20 miles from home. Stopped to get some more juice (4x was a 2.0 litre petrol auto and bloody drank the stuff  ) and realised one of the trailer wheels was about to fall off, wheel bearling had totally collapsed, could have been nasty if I'd been doing 65 on ther M1 when it went...
So best thing to do was remove the knackered wheel and limp it home at 30. got back and the car in the garage for 8pm! 12 hour day!!
So, first thing is to get it running, then check & overhaul the brakes, replace the exhaust and any perished rubber (boots/ hoses etc) then take the worst of the surface rust off and take for a test!!
You can keep up to date here if I forget to update this thread:
