Update looks like this will be a very interesting conversion. The MX engine is definitely growing popularity, I'll be watching with interest. Banded rostyles look awesome as well ;D Love this car.

small update, still verily stripping the 5. Most of the big bits have sold, but ive still got the wheels and the steering wheel. Ive been slowly removing the wiring loom, marking all the important stuff along the way. dash is all out too Took the rear petrol tank cover off and discovered genuine Japaneese stuff! Look like flea spray and a sticky bug catcher!! Boot stripped out too: Managed to crack the rear driveshaft nuts too in preparation for taking the LSD out, but thjat involved buying a 29mm socket and then another breaker bar after 'my had it for years with a puny m6 bolt as a hinge pin' breaker bar snapped! £20 investment me thinks! So diff out this week/ weekend then the engine & box.

Well, been enjoying the nice weather recently, but have been doing the odd hour here and there as I want to get the shell out of the way and get my kadett back in the garage (I don't like her getting wet!) Engine and box now out, subframes off this week as I have a buyer for them and then its all getting weighed in: Load Balancer for the hoist was a god send, should have bought one years ago rather than curse word about with a rope! I knew this allready, but first problem is where the gear shift comes up in relation to the original: Plan is to shorten the linkage bar on top of the gearbox - I can shift it up 4 inches on those mounting points, so would like to know how easy it is to get that shaft out of the gearbox?

Here's a pretty detailed explanation of relocating the shifter 4" forward on an MX5 gearbox: the-mite.com/mite18.htmIn fact, the whole build is pretty good reading. Really like the direction you're taking this car. Keep it up! -Steve
