Great little bike there. Passed my test on one of those!!! Go forever, handle surprisingly well (saw my instructor getting his knee down on one!!!) and sip peterol. The chineese copys don't come closse to the original. Cheers. Yeah fine, seem to stop ok! Just been MOT'd so I should hope they do haha. The Drums on the CG are amazingly good! Better than some of the disc setups. Don't seem to fade either. Just keep them well adjusted and the cable lubricated and you'll not go wrong. Don't overtighten the chain. You'll damage the gearbox output bearing and seal. If your not sure how tight to do it, get a "large" mate to sit on the bike and adjust the chain, then measure the slack with the bike on the stand. This will give you a guage for future referance. Enjoy!

I had a CG about 3 years ago. If it says Honda on the V5 then it would be a Honda I would imagine! I've had a CB125(T) and a CM125 in the past but I've gone knobbly now and got a '80 XL250

Rang where i used to work to get the story behind the ones we had was they were Honda CG125S CDI models but they were built for the Chinese? market hence the strange rotary 4 speed gear box - think it was everything down and neutral at the top. David Silver was the importer and had parts books

Update, didn't realize I had more replies haha. Well the log book, engine and frame numbers all state Honda CG125, so eh. ;D
Well, it's MOT is due end of this month and I don't really know what to be checking, everything is working fine etc but can anyone give me some tips on what to check for?
I'm also wondering if there is ANYTHING I can do to get more poke out of it? More top speed would be better, since at 60 its revving at like 9k lol. Sprocket changes are an option but I'm worried the engine would not pull the gearing.

Sprocket changes are an option but I'm worried the engine would not pull the gearing. Not really an awful lot you can do, easiest thing to do is play with the gearing, front sprockets are cheap so try one with a tooth or 2 more. Everything else starts to add costs and decrease reliablilty! A less restrictive K&N airfilter may help a little but make sure it's sheltered from water in the event of rain, also make sure the exhaust isn't donked on the front pipe restricting flow The other possibility is a big bore using pistons from one of the larger bikes, if there's enough meat on the barrel you should be able to get it out to around 150cc, you can also increase the stroke to give a few more cc's If you have the head off have a look and see if its worth cleaning the porting up, big valve heads are a possibility. The other thing that will give an easy power boost is higher octane fuel, you can buy octane booster for MX bikes (but its expensive), 100LL or 110LL aviation fuel (avgas) is what you need LL stands for Low Lead - obviously you can't use this on the road as its not taxed ;D ask at you local grass strip aerodrome

I had a CG125 for about 3 weeks. a 2001 model. was gutted to see it go but i did my shoulder and wrist in and couldnt ride a manual any more so got a cheap 50 twist 'n' got so I could at least do one handed Brilliant bike. got 70 out of mine on the way home but did look a lot different to yours. the rear mudguard was flat flush with the seat and the tank was a lot rounder but still had that headlight. Either way I did love it even if it was only for a short while. most of the chinese import versions are all 4 down gearboxes. if yours is a 1 down, 4 up box then its definitely a genuine Honda.

Hm, the 'box is all 4 down. All the documents and numbers and stampings all point towards it being a Honda.

This is the only version of cg i like and cant find one to buy but i am gutted someone has ruined my buzz completly suggesting its a fake honda from china. It even has honda on gear box and back of seat how can it be.Gonna contact this david silver.I have seen the hongu version your on about and are a fair bit different to this one. Even if this is true at the very least they were made officialy and under licence for honda and with official honda quality control.Still reckon these were the rare ones made in japan.
