Righty right. I'm looking for a van for my Mac IT support business. Ideally it should be cheap to buy, run and reasonably reliable, as a van should be. However I really don't want to go the white Transit Connect etc route. I want my van to help promote the business as it travels around the Cotswolds. My initial thought was a restored 2CV van. Which should fit all these requirements, should I be able to find one but I'm ready to be convinced of other alternatives. Austin A30/A35 etc are too old, it must be drivable daily. edit: Budget is 4.5K (ish) Other people have suggested a Renault 4 van( not sure it has the same cache as a 2CV) or a Smart car (bit cliched maybe). I would certainly welcome any thoughts on the matter.

If you can find one (not too common) then a polo van... they go on forever (like any polo) they are 1300 or below dependant on what it was spec'd as.. and they are easy to get bits for , insure, and run.....
oh and buy when they come up....

Indeed Polo vans are going to be pretty reliable but a big fail in the promoting the business dept. I'm really after something stand out. Am looking a Nissan Cube, but that's going to mean... financing... shiver!

Moggy vans always go down well, especially with the older generation who remember them from their childhood Random google image With a 1300 engine and 5 speed box, disk brake conversion, telescopic shocks and heated screen they can be a good proposition as a useable daily. Might have to try hard to find that spec at £4.5k though.

The Moggy van is a good choice, I also like some of the Modified Seat Inca/Caddy van but they might make people think your a chav and give the wrong impression. This Transit (Which was also in the film The Bank Job) Runs a modern 2.4TD Duratorq engine which would be perfect for daily use but I think you'd struggle to buy or converted something like this on your budget. Can you get a Ford Anglia 107E van for £4500?

Austin A30/A35 etc are too old, it must be drivable daily. I'd agree with A30 but disagree with A35 Perhaps an A60 as a larger alternative? - they were made up to '72. I don't think anything from the '80s would really be any good as a promotional vehicle. Not old enough for most people to notice and probably many still being used as old bangers/cheap vans.

Scargo looks like itwould be good. Prices seem about right. I expect they are fairly relaible (being Nissans) and economical. Will investigate further. Avantime would be ace but drinks fuel far too greedily plus insurance is very high. Also they fall apart weekly.

For a Mac repair business i think you need an LM, they look cool, but are over priced, expensive to mend and don't go that fast.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Mines broken down once in 5 years and it gets used for testing hardware and software of all kinds so it has a hard life, its normally user error in my experience, Macs have a reputation for being more reliable but generally (been in the biz since 1998) they are no better or worse for hardware failure but you cant pop down to PC world and buy everything you need to build a new one so when they do fail they have more downtime. nowt against them as computers, just the way they are priced, but most Apple stuff is the same, never the best in its field but stylish so people will pay, much like us lot will pay for fat alloy wheels we don't technically need. 'Course i don't let that stop me having a lil dig at the Mac guys. I think the Escargo idea suits the business idea really well, i reckon older retro stuff has an image of an old traditional family business while your probably gonna be better off projecting a modern stylish approach to life.
