My mate had one of these for years and dispite his best effort ( I don t think he knows what oil is let alone how to check it) it survived for years with me doing an oil change once in about 35,000. Bullet proof, would look good low and prices are the same way
The E stands for england as in made here.
I always liked the estates as well

carina e's are great. boring as a very boring thing but very very very reliable. here in ireland they're still a pretty popular cheap hack. not many modified though but can look kind of cool.

i know of one still in daily minicab use, Shared by 3 drivers each doing 8 hour shifts in the car, The thing works almost around the clock and gets the oil changed once a week (so i hear)
Must be uber reliable, Just dull! But those pics show them in a new light!

My father has a td one with just 60k on the clock. Very quick and does 50mpg. We use it for holidays and its great. Also a very good tow car.

My dad had one of these, was an Executive, quite a nice car to be in but yer the usual 90's J stuff, quite forgetable Sold it on ebay for £300 about 18 months ago. Guy from Ireland flew to Cardiff to come and get it! He said he builds rally cars, mainly Escorts and rwd Corollas I think he said. Was going to use the Carina as a road rally car. Mad

We also got to see them racing in the BTCC back in the day. Justin Bailey famously punted his team mate Will Hoy onto his roof while they fought over 1st and 2nd at SIlverstone in '93. Nissan went on to do a One Two. Yay for Nissan!

Carina GT - 153 BHP S series engine, the same as the contemporary Celica GT.
An excellent sleeper, if you can find one... ;D

in the Netherlands they also sold the facelift version of the GTi, with 175 bhp, but only 7 of them where sold. They handle very nice, but the superstrut ball joints wear out quickly. For the same amount of money you spend on the superstrut suspension, you could build a nice McPherson suspension for a normal Carina

I borrowed this for a few weeks from a friend while my MR2 was off the road (still is, but I'm driving a borrowed Citroen GS at the moment, talk about a contrast!) It's a 2 litre executive model. It's got decent performance, handles OK, but not what you'd call fun. Comfortable, spacious and reliable, can probably take more abuse than the average euro repmobile. They start to get a little more interesting if you look to the JDM equivalent badged the Caldina. The GT-T version has the turbo engine and running gear from the Celica GT4 I believe

We had one at work briefly and I didn't get on that well with it to be honest. All the controls were very light and it was very floaty on standard suspension. The 1st gen Avensis was a much better drive despite having the same underpinnings. It's possibly a bit bland but it's not an unattrative shape though so with a bit of drop it could look pretty good.

We had a 1.8 GS Auto as a company car for a few years, the things are totally indistructable 300K on the clock. Even tried to kill it doing burnouts but no luck! Comfortable but rides and handles like an old yank!
