Got to thinking after seeing this on VW forum : Mk3 Golf : with Audi TT Dash : We've kind of estabilished that you can do some interesting conversions by upgrading the classic UK/Euro car to specs from different countries. What classic cars share floorpans? Could make for some interest parts swaps (like the TT dash in the mk3 (technically the TT shares the floorpan with a mk4 but we'll not split hairs )) ,..

Theres the Sunbeam Talbot and Hillman Avenger, VW Beetle and Karmann Ghia, Morris 1800 and Morris 3 Litre, most late 80s-early 90s Rovers are mostly Hondas underneath, and I'm sure theres loads more but I cant think of any!

Alright then Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon are children of Talbot Horizon. Updated suspension and motor. Gave birth to 024 and TC3. Cousin is Dodge Rampage. Spawned full line of Chrysler K-cars. Daytona, Acclaim and so on. Stratched out to mini-vans, Voyager,Caravan and such. Redone as EEK (Everyday Extended K) like Dynasty, New Yorker, Concorde. All shared stuff. Omni with 3liter was awsome. Not production, but cool. ;D

Vauxhall Chevette, Opel Kadett, Isuzi Gemini, Chevrolet Chevette. and the Isuzu Piazza Turbo too, don't forget that little gem. Oh and using the Fiat Tipo platform. The Fiat Tipo, Bravo, Brava (probably more), Alfa 155, 164, Lancia Thema, Saab 9000 anyone else want to add to that.

Triumph Herald, which then gave us the Spitfire, Vitesse, GT6 and two different Bond Equipes. Not to mention the Courier van and the Indian-built 'Standard Herald'. All on basically the same chassis, lots of interchangeable parts. (six cylinder Spitfire, mmm...) Was that the first ever 'common platform' design?

peugeot 605/FIAT Croma/Lancia big ugly thing name escapes me. It was the Croma/Saab 9000/ Alfa 164 and Lancia Thema that had the same floorplan, the Peugeot is different.

Double check if you don't believe me. Oh, and while we are at it, the Saab 600 which was based on the Delta (Just a rebadged lower spec Delta) so tha must be Tipo based too. Hmm, a Thema 8/32, sounds quite nice now I think about it.

You are right in that the Alfa Romeo 164, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Saab 9000 have the same floorpan... But it's not a Fiat Tipo one The Saab 600 is indeed a rebadged Delta I. The Delta I (produced 1979-1994) is not Tipo-based, it is based on the Ritmo floorpan. The Delta based on the Tipo was the second generation (produced 1993-1999). I agree that the 8.32 is a VERY desirable car... A real sleeper, hiding a Ferrari V8 engine under its bonnet :

They should have made an Integrale version of the 8.32 with drive to the back wheels

If it had an Alfa badge, instead of Lancia one, it would have. Maybe even had all wheels driven. Wouldn't that be fun, and allwheel drive Ferrari V8 powered 5 seater luxury sports saloon. Oh yes Beemer 5 series, drop dead

Can we go really modern on this one ? Golf 4,Skoda Octavia,Audi TT,VW Beetle and Seat Toledo/Leon ;D I'm not biased but i think the Skoda and Audi were the best looking / handling versions.... but thats just my opinion As for old Skuds, Rapid Coupe and Estelle four door ;D ;D ;D
|

Just a modern....but surrounded every day by Porsche's !

As for old Skuds, Rapid Coupe and Estelle four door ;D ;D ;D Which was pretty much the S100/110/110R floorpan...which was the 1000MB floorpan... ;D

;DWide track Estelle/Rapid front suspension will bolt straight on to the front of the S-series,rear end is an all new ball game so i am keeping original stuff at the rear of my S-series.

Or the Volga M21 and M24, the Mosktvich 403 (I think) and the Kalashnikov IZH of the same period, if you want modern the Vauxhall Zafira is based on the mk 4 Astra, or if you want really old stuff there must have been a hundred different low-volume runs of little fibreglass sports cars based on the Ford Popular chassis.
