Or the Volga M21 and M24, the Mosktvich 403 (I think) and the Kalashnikov IZH of the same period Hmm... Some more eastern-block : The 'classic' Ladas are 'heavy duty' Fiat 124's, with a Lada-designed SOHC engine. The Niva has a similar floorpan, but Lada-designed 4x4 transmission. The Polski is a Fiat 125 without the TC engine. A Dacia is a rebadged Renault 12 with low build quality. A Zastava 1100 is a Fiat 128 and the Yugo is a shortened 128 with lots of 127 parts.

I fitted a Fiat TC into a Lada Niva that i used to own and it made it a rather potent 4x4 with better fuel consumption....while on the subject of Niva's....i've just spotted a RARE Niva Sunhat model..(cabrio)...might make some enquiries

And in Turkey, the Renault 12 (as a taxi or police patrol/panda car), and most of the Fiat ranges (upto the Tipo at least) have been licensed and manufactured as Tofas, with the Tofas factory also making Fiats for internal and export sales. Ever seen a Fiat 125 or Renault 12 with Alloys, air con and tinted windows from the factory? Thats how the Tofas version came from the factory as they need it with the heat.
