i've seem to have bought an other car! ;D It has tax till september, i remember that i read on here you can give back the tax disc and cash the remaining tax back or something like that? May be helping to get the car cheaper then it is now! ;D And if i drive it home (2 hour on UK grounds) without taxdisc, how likely is it that i get into troubles? or should i do it in Dover, just before i get on the boat? have some pics of my new car, which i'm gonna pick up friday: and TEH ORSUMZ interiors! ;D

fantastic find doc !!!! i personally wouldnt risk driving it without tax, if the car was taken away it would far outweigh any costs recouped by cashing the tax in ,wicked car though!!
|
|
yes ,it started badly ,petered off in the middle and the least said about the end the better!!!

I would suggest you get aggreement from the seller to discount by whatever is available on the tax, before you leave, then also get an envelope ready with his postal address, and mail back the disc once you are safely home. Let him sort and get back the tax.
I sold a bike to a guy in Ireland, and it had 9 months tax, so he posted it back to me and I submitted for a rebate, and got the money back.
Every penny/cent in the Retro piggy bank is money saved.

On cars before the ludicrous emissions-based system (introduced March 2001), it is simply whether it is over 1549cc or not. The tax disc on that Chaser is probably worth about £100.
The only thing is with the tax disc, let him send it off and get the money from them before he sends the thing to the DVLA saying it has been permanently exported. They only send it to the registered keeper so if they have it recorded as being sent overseas I reckon they'll just keep the tax disc money for themselves.
That's what I think anyway, if anyone knows better I'm interested, surely this happens all the time.

In the UK you have to have a Tax Disc to use the car on the road. Doesnt really take into account weight/power, simply: if you drive the car on the road, you must have a disc. Try to negotiate the price (as suggested above) because if the Police catch you without Tax & Insurance, they can crush the car........

where is the tax based on? weight, just like in the netherlands? power, like in belgium? or other things? Depends on car age That one for 12 mths is going to cost ~£200 If less than a month left it's worth nowt Between 2 months and 11 months it's a sliding scale

only one thing to add, you don't have to be the registered keeper to cash in tax disks, I do it all the time (but they do keep records of who the cheque was paid to )

which is £107.91
Definitely worth a bit of working with.
BUT. I would suggest bargaining the price etc, registering the car to a friend in england, then claiming the tax back once you're back in NED. because say they knock off £400 on the advertised price, with some haggling, great. you mention the tax, haggle, and get £400 off still. They only lose £300 on what they wanted.
thats how I'd see it anyway!

Didn't count on Swansea being organised enough to keep records though . . . !
