i'm a member of the dutch starlet club, just because I know a lot of these guys and help them out with some stuff they can't do and I can (swapping shocks, helping with elektrickery etc. etc.) There's one guy I helped a few times, because he's 'afraid' to work on his car. Last week I got a pm from him saying something like this: Thomas, you helped me out a lot the last year, and I want to do something back for you. Your Corolla is far from finished, and winter's coming. I've got 3 cars, of which one is standing still all week in an area which isn't safe. When are you home, so I can bring my car? You can use it for the winter, the car get's used and it won't get broken in to. So from today I am the 'owner' (it's registred on my name, but I didn't pay money for it) of this: it's a Friend (the lowest spec you can get) but I got it for free to use this winter!! They even threw out the original engine and swapped a more modern 1.3 16V in there! I can't thank this guy enough! I'm so happy with it! ;D This is exactly why I am a member of that club, even if I don't have a starlet anymore (well, technically, I do now ). The guys are so nice and meets are very fun ;D

That's class. I thought your title was sarcasm at first. Sounds like a nice fella.

I haven't actually been a member of a car club, but what you always hear is about the in-fighting and politics and that. I'm sure not all clubs are like that though.

yeah, i know those clubs too been there, done that etc. , but luckily, the dutch starletclub isn't one of them! ;D lot's of nice guys, who are prepared to give up their free weekend to help another member out. And it's fun to do an engineswap with 10 people ;D it's not fun at sunday 10pm when the bloody car won't start

Thats so true all car clubs go through phases, our VW one had some stonking infighting, hopefully its all behind now. Every so often somebody goes beyond the call of duty like the OP friend and it makes the world a better place ;D

I also thought I detected sarcasm in the title.
However this is how I "acquired" a Mini for the winter once. Although not through a caer club, but a lass who worked for me at the time.

Excellent news Doc - can I pass on a MASSIVE thanks to you for sorting the J rims too........... what goes around comes around my man. Offer of the heater and help still stands mate (once I can get into the damn car again!). It isn't much of a bike ride to your work, but in the weather coming a car is soooo much better John

That's a really nice story! And it's what makes car clubs (and certain car forums ) really great.

I keep your offer in mind, thanks again!!

I've just joined the Huddersfield Motor Club. Within 5 minutes of going to the first meeting i'd met "dave the painter", "john the wheel refurbisher" etc etc with them offering to do their thing with my car for mega cheap monies. In return i've offered to weld people's cars up or do modifications etc etc. What goes around comes around.
