payed the grand sum of £85 for it, then wondered why the car broke down! turns out it was nothing more serious than a nut falling off the bottom engine mount! Certainly made finding the gears a bit diffucult, still I managed to get it home eventually its been lowered, had a weber carb fitted, coupe s sports interior and alloys, so I got a bit of a bargain really! plan to use it as a daily driver, so as to give my g40 a bit of a rest! there are a few jobs to sort though.... the boot needs some attention too as someone made a pretty curse word job of smoothing the tailgate. the pass side wing needs replacing aswell! goes in for its mot on sat, so fingers will be crossed!

rolled the arches yesterday using a big hammer, made a reasonble job of it, the paint did crack, but I'm to too bothered as i planned to repaint them anyway! a big chunk of filler fell out of the driver side rear arch, but thats to be expected on a car that nearly 20 years old! don't think I'm gonna do much to the exterior other than tidy it up a bit, instead i think i will concentrate on making the interior a bit more luxurious, as it doesnt even have a stereo or even any speakers at the mo!

busy day today, went to the scrappy to get a replacement wing, found an absolute mint condition one in white, also picked up a rather rare oem goodie! next on my list was to remove the creased pass wing, which was a real pain (damn that evil vw seam seal!) got the wing off and there was no nasty hidden chunks of rust, still i gave the bits without seam seal on a good coat of hammerite just to make sure they stay good. then i bashed the dents back out of the damaged wing, why I here you cry, well it turns out the replacement wing i have, doesnt have a side repeater hole, plus i need to paint it too! still it should make swapping them a doddle now! anyway back to the oem goodies!! check these badboys out! dunno how rare they are, but ive never seen a set before

wheels were 15" x 6.5j tyres 165/50s small amount of progress! more wheels and eyebrow spoiler which i traveller'd from my mates shed (had enough bits in it to build another polo)! and yes i know the bumper is on the curse word! its cos of the soon to be replaced, crumpled passenger wing! I'm now rocking some all red rear lights of the crystal variety, don't look as good as i had hoped they might, so the original tailights are going back on once ive tinted them also fitted a new steering wheel, although this isnt going to be staying long either, as i found a rather retro mountney wheel down my local scrappy! fitted one of my homemade gearknobs too. spent far too long trying to get the polo to idle right this weekend, got it fixed though and i don't even know what ive done to it! twidled a few screws, moved the dizzy back a bit and she now flies for a 1 litre.

i don't like the 15inch because they're to big for a sqaureback but hey if you're ok with it it's fine with me

there is a reason for them! had to put the 13s on my g40 as it has a bit of play in the steering rack and the baloon tyres on the 13s do a good job of damping the vibrations! (yes i know i should really get it fixed!) personally i like 15s on polos, they ride nicely on them if you get the right tyre combo too

Very nice, what are the black/chrome wheels? - I really like them. I'd move the number plate up to be central too

What a great buy you got yourself there. Have you thought about getting a square numberplate and sitting it to one side?

What a great buy you got yourself there. Have you thought about getting a square numberplate and sitting it to one side? what for the rear? sit it to the side where? boot, bumper? previous owner made a hash of smoothing the tailgate, so I'm not sure what to do with it yet, open to ideas though!

Yeah, a square plate on the rear. I thought that seeing as it has been smoothed it seems a shame to place the plate back in the centre. It kind of defeats the purpose of smoothing it imo. I thought that a plate like this - www.german-number-plates.com/Editor/assets/German-Square.jpg would look fab on the right of the bootlid. I also think it would fill the area nicely. Oh and after all it is a SQUARE back!

^^ we will have to wait and see what the rear brings, in the mean time heres another little update the pass wing was badly dented, so i sourced a white replacement earlier in the thread! so with the wing being the wrong colour i decided a diy rattlecan job was the way forward seing as its just a cheap project! painted the new wing at work, then noticed it had a couple of dents in it (will fix these in the summer, when its warmer). also tinted some spare rear lights at the same time removed the wing again, was much easier this time seing as i'd already had it off once before. took the oppertunity to also apply some extra seam sealer to the back of the polos wing and also to the inner wing but didnt bother to take a pic as it didnt look that interesting! heres the wing fitted next i gave the fresh paint (i say fresh but it has been next to a radiator for 4 days to allow it to cure fully) a cut back with some autosmart colour restorer could probably cut it back a bit more yet to get the finish a little sharper. but still it isnt looking bad for a rattle can paint job
