Hi all again this week I didn't achieve much with it.
I took the rocker cover off one night and took it to work to use the parts washer and blaster, it didn't come up much better unfortunately but as i'm not really going to keeping the car prestine it doesnt seem worth painting it or anything!
Also gave the engine exhaust side a clean up with heavy duty cleaner as i was coated in oil
then when taking out the spark plugs out this happened on spark plug 3!
lol look at where it all must have come from, the odd ring out!
the original cambelt looked ok to be fair, it had been changed at some time
the seal was so brittle!
before
after
not much different just clean and now need to stick the internal plates back down!
got all my things through in the post too
and this, never going to use it as I think its bad for engines funny though (English version is called power start)
Saturday didnt get anything done as I went to the track day, so today 1st March I started off as normal, in the gym for 9 decided to do a quick one as I wanted to get cracking on with the 5.
My quickest routine is shoulders (40 mins normally), 20 mins in and giving it some I felt some real sudden pains in my left upper arm dropped the 20Kgs instantly (i was doing straight arm lifts at the time).
I only went and trapped a mussel in my upper back/shoulder couldn't get comfortable again tried for 10mins stretching and rubbing it then trying to carry on it wasn't happening so gave up and sat in the steam room contemplating the mx5 work and how to manage now lol, banging headache all day because of the pains!
here's the work today anyway.
spun the engine around as I couldn't get it connected to the engine stand so spent
my day on my hands and knees lol
Covers off, belts off
the only way I could manage to get the bottom pulleys off was to take the middle bolt out and remove the lot at once
water pump off, I removed all the bolts on the rear to cover to as I thought this would help, no real need in the end
taking cam pulleys off one at a time to do the seals it was hard work getting the bolts off, and when putting them back in i was surprised that the torque settings putting them back where so little (bit worried to be fair so i locktighted them too)
when putting the pulleys back on i decided to put all the bolts back in the back plate, the bolts didnt feel nice going in, didn't seem to bite tight so i decided to blue them up too ended up being just the one bolt didn't feel nice as Its head must have been starting to twist the result,
never mind as I tried to move the plate towards the pulley and couldn't get it to touch without using force so isn't going to be an issue one thing wrong when feeling totally curse word ain't bad!
crank seal replaced to
new belt on, new tensioner and idler bearings
to be honest I didn't make any extra marks when doing the belt as I didn't find the original ones to be that bad, compared to all the bad talk about them! (that's until I turn it on and its a tooth out )
lower covers on and alt belt
then did the cas seal, it wasn't actually snapped but very brittle and flat!
checked out the engine mounts and their condition looks fine, think they might have been changed sometime
is this plug where I need to connect up the oil drain from the turbo?
I know I said I wasn't going to paint up any bits but even when not feeling well and not wanting to put full effort in I did these
the cam cover was just a trail fit, sat in the house now waiting for me to seal the plates back in
last job was new spark plugs 7E's for the turbo
it must have took me an hour to pack the little amount of tools away that I used today
cheers
Chris
