  Just picked this gorgeous 5 up. 845cc but quite nippy. Drum brakes and a seriously large dose of gallic charm! Chavvy Civic has gone and I think I've managed to find a darned fine replacement! Only issues so far are over-reacting self-cancelling indicators, a wobbly passenger mirror and the fact that the clutch will soon need replacing. However, came with a large amount of spares (including a clutch plate) so can't really complain. I love it! More pics once daylight and the Renault combine their next meeting with my camera! |

That is great!!!! I love it!!! My father had two of these and I know a guy who restored a non turbo 5 Alpine and is supposed to be in the progress of restoring a second one now.

Ash - wasn't aware of your problem (presume it was trouble logging into France-scene, the number one forum for French vehicle lovers? Plug plug!  ) but I've now sorted it having had a guess. If it was another sort of problem, you'll have to enlighten me!! I've always had a soft spot for Renault 5s. Can't remember the last time I saw one this early so I had to have it! |

Brilliant! That car just looks wrong on an 'M'-plate...a testimony to how far ahead of its time the R5 was when launched. Must surely be one of the earliest left, congrats on a super purchase Yan!  |

The only mod I've ever made to a car was lobbing "that" sticker on the Honda. I ain't gonna touch this!!
It isn't quite as good as it seems. Rust is bubbling up in a few places but I should be able to get that sorted - no holes!

Nice early example. Is that a tax-free 1973? Guess it doesn't matter if not as you'd get the reduced tax on an 845cc anyhow. I owned an M-reg '73 Fiat 126 (594cc) which just missed tax-free status - why couldn't they keep it a rolling 25-year old exemption?

Tax - it was registered Oct 73 so is currently not tax free. I do plan to investigate the build date however...
Gearshift - I drive a 2CV so should be used to it. Still takes some adjusting to though! Pulls from 10mph in third though so you don't have to change that often!

Me and my little bro were supposed to be buying a Early renault 5 TL with the Umbrella shift for my dads 25th Wedding anni but there as rare as a poor quality wobbly children's play pony that poops hens teeth!.

Doubt dropping a 1.7 in would be that easy - longitudinal engine with the gearbox out front like a Traction Avant or DS. Ain't going to happen anyway!
It has had the sills replaced - don't think there is such thing as a non-rusty one! More pics later - haven't yet encountered enough daylight!

 The Seabrook fleet as it currently stands. Complete with tiny caravan! The cars are actually in engine size and power order. 602/29 then 845/36 (thought it was only 32 but checked another book today!) and finally 998/40. Feel the power! They are also in reverse size order (taking length as the measurement) as the 2CV is the longest of them all! |
