Bought this this morning and started work as soon as I got my hands on it. It came with the traditional fiat matt pink paint and a broken starter motor. Anyway an afternoon and evening of cutting and polishing later we have this Check the shine To get it to that I used a polishing machine with some G3 compound then 1 coat of polish. Thanks for all the kit go to my girlfriends brother who is/was a professional car valeter. The bodywork is not perfect but good enough for my gf to learn to drive in. I also flatted, primed and painted the wing mirrors as they were both very faded. They've come up amazing to say I didnt de-grease them or anything lol. Theres a few little niggles to sort. The horn doesnt work as with traditional italian design brilliance its hangs near the front valance so has rusted to jolly pain in the backside. Luckily i've got a spare horn of the volvo so will make that fit somehow. The windscreen washers don't work but haven't investigated that yet. Think thats about it, for £75 it was an absolute bargain. Plans are to fit some 13" 100+ cross spoke alloys i've got and slam it, fit a decent stereo and speakers, paint the rest of the black plastic trim then drive the wheels off it. Matt

I think Unos and Tipos are a good car to be playing with at the moment... much unexamined potential.

Forgot to say we had a bit of a result last night. When we bought the car the starter motor didnt work. However last night my gf was messing about turning the igniton on and off, and after a bit it just fired up as normal and is now fine. Anyway some new pics This one shows the colour better. Fire Engine!!!!! One of the wheels which is going on it, and the side trim which I'm spraying black. I need 1 centre cap if anybody has one they're 100+ 13" cross spoke wheels. I painted the air filter box and gave the engine bay a quick wipe over and it came up lovely. Close Up Tomorrows job is to go to the scrappers and try and get a bit of metal flexi hose for the exhaust thing, get the wheels off and ajust the handbrake and sort the horn out. Matt

The alloys should look OK, plus sort some of the comedy understeer out - 135 section tyres are the most pointless invention ever. Not sure where I can get another centre cap from yet I can't find any info about the wheels whatsoever I bought them thinking they were metro gta wheels.

Matt I had a set of them wheels on my MG metro back in 1990 - bought them to replace the awful metric td alloys that were factory fitted. They looked good on the black MG Metro (lowered/side exit exhaust) - had Goodyear NCT2's on - huge amount of grip. I'll have a look at the back of the shed - there just might be a centre cap lurking there somewhere - but don't bet on it. will let you know.

Great mini-project. You don't see many Uno's about anymore, they used to be everywhere.

Cheers for the comments. After fiddling this morning I now have possibly the rarest Fiat ever, in that everything electrical works perfectly lol
Firkin - That'd be ace if you could check.
Vic - I can't believe how well the paint has come up, gonna get on with fixing the few bits of rust next week try and get it perfect.

Another quick update. I've decided that everything thats black plastic, bar the bumpers, is gonna get painted gloss black. Front (Fiat badge and stripes) Back (badges and the bit above numberplate) The Uno badge and the side badges Still to do are the rest of the side strips, the cowl panel and the windscreen wipers.
