Saw an old Sierra yesterday, 1.6L, a bit dirty but solid but the reg number was JOD 1E Class I thought, other drivers may look down at his old car but his plate is probably worth more than their house Nice standard font as well with no silly spacing or fonts ...

Excellent, that’s a good use of a personal plate. None of this titting around with extra screws to make something which looks a bit like your name ‘might be spelt’.

Passed a BWM on the M4 this morning, hogging the middle lane at 65 with C1 UNT as the number plate - sums it up really........

My favourite plate was on a mint mid eighties SL Merc driven by a well heeled woman. The plate? MIN 9E.
Genius.

Personalised reg's do my nut - that BMW driver with C1 UNT sums it all up for me... he's so desparate do have something "different" on his car he doesn't even mind calling himself a curse word . I wonder if he has T-shirts made up with "I am a tw@t" written across the front too? Saw a vicars BMW with J3SUS as his plate - that made me smile

There was a lecturer at college who had a shed of a Mini with the reg ORG 169. It was written as ORG1 69. Mercedes running around Edinburgh with the reg DAR 10S. Apparently cost him 90K. Best one though must be Steve Parrish's number PEN 1 S ;D

When I worked in the garage we used to service a woman's Fiat X/19 with the reg SCX 1E..... I felt a right tw@t road testing it....

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I don't understand UK people and their fascination with numberplates that I can barely work out what they say.
Here we can get proper personalised plates with 6 characters in any order of any letters or numbers as long as noone else already has it or its offensive.
If you could get the equivalent of 150 pound for JODIE let alone JOD1E Id be surprised. Probably 100 would even be stretching it.
On my honda I have AMUSE which I bought brand new for just over 100 pound

see i'd love that system to be introduced here... the personalised plates have no meaning on age or district anyway (i could put a 1975 London plate on my 1991 Leicester-registered audi f'rexample) so what good do they serve apart from to keep the fun ones back for mega-bucks.
Plus... the whole point they make about not 'misrepresenting' registrations (eg putting a few boltholes and italic letters and misplaced letters in to make T173 ANK into TIT W*NK) is that it'd be harder to make out what they really are - but if you mow someone down in the street and zoom off, is a witness more likely to remember H611 FBC or BIGBUM1?
baaah. yet another cash cow.

I’m not sure about cash cow, in my view if folk are vain enough to think its worth paying for a reg which looks a bit like their name, then by all means let them. That money is better off going to the DVLA to pay for new printer cartridges for their computer. I bet if the system was changed, the govt/DVLA line would be ‘we’re increasing the cost of tax discs by £10/year to offset the loss of income from flogging numbers to gullible sad attention wh*res’<br> Incidentally the Tories were making noises a couple of weeks ago about privatising the DVLA if they were elected, that would be fun eh? It doesn’t take much nouse to see how that would pan out. Admin charges ahoy!!! And private contracted companies tasked with ‘making sure your records were up to date’!!! Noooiiiiice.
