eBay have announced that as from May 2008 Sellers will not be able to leave neutral or negative feedback for buyers - the only option for a seller will be to leave a positive or no feedback at all! Buyers will still have the choice of leaving positive, neutral, negative or no feedback. If you are a seller and think that this is wrong, for what it is worth, go to the eBay community forums and sign the petion on the Community Question and Answer board. You can do this on ebay.co.uk or ebay.com (or preferable both )

Seems silly to me, but it would avoid having curse word sellers leaving neg feedback for legit buyers that got sold curse word.

Stops come-back negging as well. Seller misadvertises / sells srap, buyer negs their sorry socks off and gets it right back in their face.

guess it gives the seller a bit more responsibility for a good service/item too.
Wasn't keen at first but its not altogether a bad idea...

I'd feel more comfortable leaving negative feedback for a curse word seller now. Had a few in the past but didnt bother so I could keep my feedback good. I imagine I'm the sort of person who they aim to benefit.
Still a bit of a shat idea for sellers though.

as a seller, if the buyer pays, i leave postive feedback straight away
so wont really effect me, unless the buyer doesnt pay - then i will leave feedback which no one can mistake for positive - whether ebay likes it or not
too many ebay buyers are not paying, or taking an age to do so

so a bad ebayer that doesn't pay for items can just list and item and we won't be able to see any of his history?
I guess your feedback will only build up if you sell on ebay?
Is this a ploy to get more people selling things on ebay to get people intrested in selling on ebay? Its only the sellers that get charged.

It's actually the stated intention of the new CEO of e-bay to get rid of all the small sellers. He wants it to only be used by people/companies who sell a lot of stuff. Folk like you and I who use it to sell off the odd unwanted item are...er...unwanted.

That would be daft though, its the garage, loft clearances that make ebay exciting, if its full of plastic tat from china, dodgy bootleg brand stuff it will be boring, and corse they make loads out of joe public anyways. Car boot sale comeback revolution? maybe...

as a seller, if the buyer pays, I leave postive feedback straight away Absolutely - the buyer has done their bit at this point. I've had negative feedback on a sale that I paid for instantly on Paypal: I bought 6 polo shirts (rock n roll!) I paid instantly. I got an email saying they'd actually sold out. I left NEUTRAL feedback as the transaction NEVER HAPPENED! The seller Neg'd me as they offered to send me them when they were in stock - but gave no date. The feedback was withdrawn - pricks...

So you buy something. When it arrives, you email the seller "give me my money back or I neg you" and the seller can't do squit... neg with no opportunity for recourse and a bad reputation, or cough up and be out of pocket. Well fair. If this situation happens (and it will), trying to sort it through eBay's "customer support", HA!

kinda works for me as a buyer, once ive paid I have filled my part of the bargain.
Very few sellers will give feedback as soon as youve paid and always wait till you fed back so if you have forfilled your part of the deal and recieved curse word you can often be afraid to leave a neg as you don't want any tit for tat negging back despite the fact youve been a good ebayer...

hmm. Can see where they are coming from, sellers can do NPB strikes, but I would prefer to be able to neg the proper numpties.

I'm well fed up with eBay. We need the next generation global tat selling system. Craiglist UK?
And talking of next gen, I am now so "down with the kids" that I made the post above from my mobile phone.
Yah.

Surely the neg is the only means of 'managing' the armies of nob end buyers who fanny about, fail to pay etc. You neg em, then next time, everyone can see if they are getting a tyre kicker or a proper buyer. If sellers are unable to neg timewaster buyers, how are you gonna know if your buyer is any good or not?
Seems completely insane to me, its half of the entire means by which ebay members can decide whether they can trust some stranger with whom they are about to engage in a financial transaction. Maybe its not an issue if you buy and sell CD's, but the number of timewasting wanl<ers on there that bid on cheap cars, means that some sort of management technique is vital IMO.
And whats this about ebay courting 'big sellers' and not individual ebay hobbyists? I find that hard to believe to be honest as i cannot see any possible reason why they would wanna do that.
