Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Well big week here at RR HQ, firstly we've got the Weekender website going live properly along with a whole bunch of announcements that go alongside that (including the paddock display themes). Then on Thursday I'm getting on a plane (all being well) and heading to the US of A and visiting the Grand National Roadster Show for the first time, which I'm very excited about. Expect photo thread to appear from that Lots of other bits and pieces going on, Quick60 update to out to last year's competitors, Club RR 2024 mail to go out in Feb (which needs somethings confirming before I send it), I've re-started the list of stuff that needs doing on here after the December problems I lost momentum for most of Jan. Car wise, I'm just driving the 996 and listening for random noises that are going to cost me money, and trying to not spend that money so I can afford to complete the Datsun in my life time. Hope everyone else has made it through January relatively unscathed. Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/226401/chat-thread-despite-wind-wc

This week with better weather we’re getting on with getting our cars ready for the spring, my son bought the puma from me and is currently preparing it for a track day at brands in February I’m just fitting new brakes and front legs on the escort ready for the show season, it’s nice to have lighter afternoons now to do it after work

Loosing my job, getting a decent payout from it, found a new job, finished the Australian car, so it's ready for Dutch license plates, booked a holiday to Japan with part of the payout. I don't know if i can call that relatively unscathed, but in the end it's not that bad, just the next couple of months to finish the current job, which aren't fun at all.

I was about to say that that foglight there is very ugly and that you could've had an LED in the left cluster, then realised that you've done it like that on purpose so that the RDW have to give you an 18:2 kenteken. Excellent thinking.
Good luck with the next few months, and I realise that I should've said that first...

That's exactly the reason why it's there indeed. We don't want the ugly big plates on it and without the fog light there, there's no chance of getting a 18:2 stamp in the paperwork. Afterwards, the foglamp will definitely move to the left cluster And thanks!

January has been surprisingly kind, which has been a huge relief. Hopefully February will continue the trend. The days getting longer and the weather steadily improving has been a mood lifter too, nice to experience a bit of optimism. I've been without a project car for the first time in a very long time since selling the Maestro in November (the Lanchester doesn't count, that one's a shared project and I'm a long-distance participant in that after the house move) and it's got me re-evaluating where I want to go with that in the future. The Princess really does need some love so 2024 is going to be the year of trying to get that sorted. Where I'm moving to I've got a friend who is excellent with engines that has offered to help on that front, and another who's equally blessed with bodywork so I might even get it in nice paint for the first time ever in my ownership. I just have to be good and not buy/adopt another project until the Princess is sorted, especially since it's my only transport again. Can I change the habit of a lifetime and not take on or start any new projects stretching my means to their absolute limit for 2024? Only time will tell.

While the 47 Desoto is kicking my ass in the workshop I did find this interesting post whilst procrastinating... E. J. Potter “The Michigan Madman” Built and drove some of the craziest machines the world has ever seen. From his famous SBC powered motorcycle’s, tractor pullers to these two awesome drag exhibition cars!
“Nightmare 1”, a 1957 Plymouth four-door with a 3000hp Allison 1710ci V12, a clutch from a tugboat, and a rear end from Chevy 1 ton. The MadMan wheeled the Plymouth from the back seat, to 145+mph 10 second runs.
Another beast from Potter was “Nightmare Too”, he then shoehorned the Allison v-1710 into this econo box Dodge Dart station wagon. When the Dart’s drag career was over, he pulled the aircraft engine, welded up the floor pan, reinstalled the stock driveline, and made it road worthy again for Mrs. Potter! How cool!
“Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even usually surpassing knowledge. Lots of times a guy will jump into a project without knowing how far he is into something way over his head until it’s almost too late to back off. This is a situation that I frequently wake up to in the middle of another adventure.” -E.J. Potter

Picked up a laser cutter to expand my hobby of printing "stuff" big. Then got a load of haynes manuals to print some garage wall art wiring diagrams on the aforementioned printer. also ordered some bottom arms for the daily, and continued in the neverending task of tidying the garage and the house jobs list...
