Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Absolute madness at the moment some how, this is supposed to be my quiet time where I catch up with all the stuff. However we've motored straight in to 2024 and it still (just about) only October. Anyway car wise nothing but expenses. Latest set of work done on the Sunny (will post up some photos in the thread), daily driver needs a new tyre (£200+), also insurance renewal on said daily came in as eyewatering (as per previously whingebinned thread), shopped about a bit, got it at last years price with additional roadside recovery, so that was good. Forum update still in coming (you can actually use it right now if you go to your profile and select the October Update as your theme), still a few bits to do on the removal of the sticky advert on non-portrait screens and fix up a few other issues, did a few more last night, but suspect it'll be tonight before the rest are implemented. Anyway, what you been up to? Or planning at the moment? Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/225857/chat-thread-wc-16-10

I'm currently doing no exciting car work, but am building a motorbike engine in my kitchen which is taking a while but is going together ok Mostly been daily drivers consuming funds at the moment, Almera needs a front wheel bearing which I'm going to try doing myself to save on labour costs. Other Half's 207 had a top mount changed recently and it reminded me how much even the smallest jobs at a garage can cost 🙃 Starting to think of a longer term replacement for the 207, shan't be anything retro unfortunately unless she has a change of heart 😂 Might try and get back to refurbing wheels for the MG again, I started doing the barrels but stopped short of getting the faces blasted for paint Been considering where to buy deeper lips for them, Image seem to be reasonably priced

Went to the last RWYB of the year with the Fugitive (having barn found it first ) The question now, having seen DarrenW photos, is did it lift a wheel? Because if it didn’t it doesn’t look like so by much Sadly it wasn’t me driving either, was Tom

I'll have to do a bit more digging for reviews on either of them I can't remember the name but there is a French company who do lips as well, but I guess that would likely work out more expensive with the postage etc.

A great day/evening! This week I'm sorting out loads of stuff for the VWDRC ahead of our AGM in a couple of weeks... Memberships, website stuff, artwork for things, plenty to keep busy.

Also I was given a bootful of old mags yesterday, to go with the thousands of magazines I have here already... Some real gems, including some 1960s F1 Grand Prix programmes, should keep me occupied for a bit!

This week I'm sorting out loads of stuff for the VWDRC ahead of our AGM AWARDS DINNER in a couple of weeks... Memberships, website stuff, artwork for things, plenty to keep busy. FTFY. Excellent day out... followed up by a nice Sunday looking at some healthy BMW Spark Plugs and a couple of light ales. Tim Tom did a stellar job sending the Fug into the night without the benefit of headlights... I reckon without the outside interference that last run would have been a 13 easy..... just needs some blinkers depending on who's in the other lane!

Some... Also on my radar this week is to investigate who can rebuild my N52 motor for me, I think it might need at least a piston ring or two and valve stem oil seals...

I literally could not give them money for items they said they ‘could source’. They just stopped replying to mails. Gave the impression of being some kid in his bedroom acting as middle man tbh.

Been sorting all the Maestro spares into one place today and was surprised how much there was, especially considering how much of the massive spares pile I've already put to use. I'm doing that thing where I'm imagining all sorts of things are wrong with it purely because it's up for sale, every noise that was formerly a benign rattle for several years is now a component about to explode, every twitch of a gauge needle the hint of catastrophe around the corner... selling cars is the worst. No timewasters yet though, so there's that.
I'm absolutely itching to get stuck in on the Princess and having to wait until this weekend and hopefully decent-ish weather since I need to repaint some of the brake parts when I fit the new bits and have nowhere under cover to do that. Definitely a great idea to wait until nearly November before I get stuck in on bodywork and paint, very smart of me.

Still not got this damn Like Display sorted in the theme update (it won't look any different but will actually work properly), think I'm 4 hours in trying to solve it now. Stupid thing is currently holding up the rest of the update being released.
Think I may go back to square one with it tomorrow and have a re-think.

Happy days, the Maestro sold this afternoon in one of the more pleasant and easy transactions I've had when selling a car. Hooray for forums and the people who use them saving me from eBay chanchers. Back to using the Princess as my daily and only car now then. I know there's a thin line between bravery and stupidity and I'm not sure which side of it I'm now standing on.
