Estates are just cool, think I've only had really one though (technically two if I include one I had as a donor car for a short while) BMW E34 520i, a real nice daily, but by the end I'd wished I'd bought a higher spec model to begin with! Do quite fancy a 740, E39, W124, W210, 156, 159 etc. or even a proper American station wagon..

Looks a good honest advert in terms of what is 'wrong' with it ...interior looks very good ...

I love an estate, I've had loads in the past including some Merc S210's a mk4 golf, 3 early 90's Audi a6's all at the same time (one was a 2.5tdi quatro, hell of a car), and a dull-as-ditchwater Focus. I currently seem to have 4 including a Passat, a Volvo V50, a Chrysler 300c and the only one of interest here and my current daily driver a 1984 Granada 2.8 Ghia X.

If I could find a sorted B3 Passat estate, I'd be a very happy chap.

Wonder what it does mpg wise I did like the way the ad is written, would be lying if I said I didn't spend part of my lunch break earlier reading up about w211 rear suspension and SBC brake issues 😅 A quick search seems to suggest a range from high teens to high 20s although I think those were US mpg numbers so 20s to low 30s on a run in UK numbers?...

I hate asking the MPG question but nowadays it really is a consideration when coupled with the ever increasing insurance charges. Like many I imagine, I have bought thirsty cars (still have one!) but end up not enjoying it 100% because of the constant fuel costs. That merc would be superb to own but I doubt it would never be really appreciated with the nagging running costs

That merc would be superb to own but I doubt it would never be really appreciated with the nagging running costs Those are a real laugh to drive, e500 wagons are quite rare. Fuel wise the most I have ever seen is 28mpg on the motorway, 15 around town. The biggest running cost on those engines are spark plugs, there are 16 of them! Air shocks are £250 a go from autodoc, but it's normally just a leak at the pipe unions. The SBC faults can be expensive but BBA-reman is your friend there. I drive it like I stole it and just accept that it's going to drink fuel, still cheaper to fix than a modern diesel. On the wagon front I also have this one to cruise about in, 3.0D but with a manual box.

I usually like the big old 70's/80's box shape best but just came across these pics and thought this might be the most apt current thread to add them to. They kinda remind me of the old C3 Corvette Sportwagon in that they really, really shouldn't work but somehow I'm extremely drawn to them. I'll take the one without the wing. Must dig pics of my old WRX Wagon and add them here when I get chance also.

I like estates as well, Cortina MK4 (or maybe it was a MK5), BMW E36 328i, Audi S4 (B5 twin-turbo V6) and Alfa 159. I really liked the 159 despite the many faults, a car I always found myself looking back at when I parked it.

I always like the early 90s Vauxhall Carlton. My Dad hired cars on a regular basis to take my brother and I to school/university as he did not have a car at that point. He once had a middling white 2 litre GLi and everything about that car was perfect for University lugging - it was huge inside and comfortably ate up miles on the motorway. K328HOO has long since gone but it was a superb vehicle. We were lucky though - we also had a black one a couple of years before and that was a dog!!

Like those too mrbounce When I was a courier my boss had a facelift omega 2.6v6 auto that I used to go to London a few times. It was a lovely car. Never liked autos but I liked this one. And you could tell it was a German made vehicle compared to the other Vauxhalls I had owned or driven.
