Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Hard to describe how happy I am to have got the new mobile layout in a state where it can be tested. Not right, not finished, but at least tested. Details are here : forum.retro-rides.org/thread/225310/help-test-new-themeEssential, Join the Beta Testing Group, then change your theme in the profile. Other than that work continues on all things events, club and general forum stuff. Watched a bit of Goodwood over the weekend, and failed to do anything in the garage in terms of tidying. Carwise I'm making a list of all the things I found wrong with the 996 when I did my road the other week and then working out who and how much to fix those things. Hopefully some of them I can do myself for a change. Previous Thread : forum.retro-rides.org/thread/225257/chat-thread-got-threads-wc

The week before last (I think?) we discussed the death of Erich Bitter in the chat thread. I fired up Inkscape and spent a bit of time drawing a Bitter SC by way of a very small tribute. http://instagram.com/p/Cu3c3qZIp3U If that didn't work (not sure how to link IG posts in the beta site!) here's the pic

Don't think that is a Beta site issue, seems IG changed something with their embed permissions a few weeks back. Some stuff works but I'm not sure what. It is on my list of things to see if I can find a work around for on the new site

A testing time here too cos I did two of them in a week, on vehicles I’d either forgotten about renewal or wasn’t previously using. No issues on either though, although I’d already replaced a rear light on the transit and the battery on the Lupo before taking them. One day I’ll set up actual reminders so they don’t just run out and I realise 3 weeks later because of a FB memory notification…

Not got much planned over and above normal work car stuff. Did have a used and abused R32 GTR in for new turbos and a few other bits.

Mostly done with mechanical stuff on the Crossfire, need to sort the rust now which will be a new adventure. Also trying to keep something happening with the MG and the Kawasaki, as well as mine and gf's dailies needing a bit of attention, plenty to keep going on with! Following the news about Erich Bitter, I was reading today that the founder of Callaway Cars, Reeves Callaway passed away recently also jalopnik.com/callaway-cars-founder-reeves-callaway-has-died-at-75-1850642430For me, the Sledgehammer is just one of the coolest Corvettes

Testing the patience of my paint guy with the Dodge. Does that count?

Are you me? We now have a list on the fridge with what has MOT, tax and insurance due and when. Last year I missed doing them on every car I own, by a couple of months on each. So taxing became a panic of next day MOTs.

So taxing became a panic of next day MOTs. Can I suggest that you look at an app called CarCloud. It enables you to manage all of your car details from one place, mot, insurance etc and then sends you a reminder a month before it is all due. Yes they will try and sell you insurance but for 3 cars (I think) it is a free to use service. Full disclosure - it is owned by a friend of mine and I am a small investor. P.

Doesn’t quite suit my needs, I have 12 13 vehicles and a trade policy 😆

Fair enough Dez. There is a paid version which gives you the ability to hold information for multiple vehicles but probably still won’t meet your needs. However, for those of use with a couple of motors it’s a good tool and avoids the fridge door overload… P.

Are you me? We now have a list on the fridge with what has MOT, tax and insurance due and when. Last year I missed doing them on every car I own, by a couple of months on each. So taxing became a panic of next day MOTs. A fridge-based system would be about my level too. Then the mrs. would ‘tidy’ it and I’d be back to square one 😂 At least I don’t have to worry about the insurance side of things because of having a trade policy. If I’m in a car it’s insured which removes a lot of the hassle, apart from the two weeks up to renewal being stressful and constant phonecalls. Going to tax cars and not being able to because the test is out is where I usually fall down. There’s a lot to be said for MOT exemptness! Tbh it shows what an ass our system is though. You need 3 bits of paper, one of which is a detainable offence not to have, one they might fine you for, and one they go ‘meh, we won’t even remind you when it runs out’. And it’s pretty much logistically impossible to make all 3 fall due on the same day, so they’re peppered though the year depending on when you bought the car, just to catch you out…

Your tax and insurance are most likely to be due at the same time anyway, now that VED isn't transferable. That's for us civilians not in the trade. I prefer not to have the MOT at the same time to spread the costs out
