Everywhere is 2 hours from my house now days, except Haynes museum which is fifteen minutes. So if I want to get to anything on a Sunday it is usually a 6am start. Get dressed, make a tea, dive in the car and head out.
This weekends recipient of the "I'm getting too old for this early of a start on a Sunday" award was the Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble. An occasional cars and coffee type gathering at the Bicester Heritage site, which is a bit extra in that it has curated displays, on site businesses showing what they are about and a big reputation, which brings out some very cool cars.
The event is sort of in two bits, the "technical" site is inside the gates, you need to have a golden ticket of some sort to get in there, or be with one of the business or curated displays. These cars are parked around the buildings and on the grass (weather permitting). The other side is the pre-1990 car parking which is outside the gates. There is also a post-1990 car parking area, which is at least 70% Porsches.
Talking of which, I took my 996 along now that it has new tyres, a service, MOT and tax. First proper journey out in it this year and it behaved faultlessly (although the test of the emergency alarm thing on the way home did make me panic that something catastrophic had happened).
This time I met up with Dan VIP as he hadn't been before. Seeing as I wasn't there for any other reason than just to enjoy, it was a nice change of pace to my usual either a) finding cool cars/people for events, or b) taking photographs for a feature. We bumped into a number of RR people (which I mentioned in the weekly chat thread) as well as ending up chatting to some rando folk as we looked at cars.
There was a display of wedge cars that had various Lamborghinis as well as Lotus and other bits of wedgie goodness. I think the only one I took a photo of was the Ferrari 308 GT4, because I really like them.
The chaps from Roll Hard had a display there, which serves as promotion for their event in August (weekend before Gathering thankfully no clash!), which always looks excellent.
Seeing as this isn't planned out as a "feature" the photos are kind of a potluck selection of things that caught my eye. I'll leave you with some more, enjoy...
