Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Ended up being a productive week last week, got the first meeting for Club RR confirmed (even if I didn't finish my admin work and get emails out to everyone), working on the second and some other Club RR bits and pieces. Managed to finish up the Grand National Roadster Show thread, and even got the first episode of the reborn RR Podcast out there (which mainly involved remembering a few logins, all the hard work was done by ToolsnTrack and ChasR ). This week my things to do list is still infinitely long, but hopefully another intro episode to the Podcast will be out today, then I've got a whole load of Quick60 stuff to do and need to do exciting cashflow on RR Website to see what projects I can move forward this year. One day I'll get back in the garage and tidy it up... Previous Thread : forum.retro-rides.org/thread/224194/chat-thread-insert-title-wc

This week I've bought an engine to try and kick some life back into my long dormant MGB project, getting quite excited about getting back to it

Sold some parts that were stopping me from tidying the garage. Unfortunately it's now time to tidy the garage.

Me and my eldest went up to watch the East Riding Stages closed road rally yesterday. I've got some decent videos that I need to compile, but my phone isn't good for photos of moving objects, so have a Impreza with a post infront of it and a bit of a Legacy lol. And videos from professionals. Corolla WRC ftw.

Two of my favourite things have combined to create one mega thing. Hunters Moon who do great little documentary videos have done a video on the Canonball Run That keeps popping up on my Youtube feed and I keep meaning to watch it. Actually, there have been a whole string of Cannonball-related videos appearing. Has there been some Cannonball activity recently to trigger that?

Has there been some Cannonball activity recently to trigger that? Couple of Coast to Coast to Coast (Redball -> Portofino -> Redball) runs recently had videos out and I shared them in one of the Weekly Chat threads, so maybe based on those being 'viewed' in there??

Again I am asking about the "sanctioning body" of the Cannonball Run. I ask this because the internet keeps telling me that there has been an "official" record set or when an "offical record" was set. This implies someone is "owning" this. So I know the guy who originally "organised" this has retired some years back, and that the name "Canonball Run" has been licenced by some "take your supercar on a party tour" kind of "experience" operator, but I'm very keen to know what the "official" line is (maybe that YouTube video will tell me) because I am sure that there is a "class" of timing which is either so old or so obscure that a stupid brit with a suitable car could set a class record with a little research and not lose his IDP in the process.
If you can just drive the route and post a claim online unchallenged its no fun.
"Fastest run by a middle aged white guy in a green 1970s 4 door sedan" or whatever is probably a poor boast, but there has to be a boast one could make. Who wants to copilot?

I've been watching a few of these From A to B videos from the early 90s and I think they're making me feel a bit sad. I know these are a sort of rose-tinted window back in time, but doesn't everything come across as so much simpler back then.

I finally got back to thinking about my own cars this week. Usually I use the Winter to complete a project in the garage but as we moved house slowly over December and January it was the sole focus. I hung all pictures in the new place last weekend and that is now the "done" point with the exception of the garden.
So, I planned out my visit to the Nürburgring in June in more detail. I decided that the Speedster is the one to join me there so I set the wheels in motion for an overdue suspension refresh by booking in my Sachs coilovers for a rebuild.
I finally cleaned the Family 5 series which was a van for the last 3 months and on Friday the last of my 86 parts arrives from Boston so I'll make the changes to that in the coming month.

This week I've agreed to buy a T5. It's 19 years old, which is terrifying. Picking it up on Saturday.

I know these are a sort of rose-tinted window back in time, but doesn't everything come across as so much simpler back then. I'm getting that with some of the facebook groups, some of them actually post "old pics" from the 80s and 90s rather than the 50s and 60s and I see a world I grew up in and recognise how much of the world I knew has changed really radically, but I hadn't noticed so much as it happened slowly.

I've been dailying my son's '96 Pulsar for the last 20 months cos my '90 Falcon is awaiting reassembly of the fuel injection system. The boy dailies his mother's '90 Laser.

Yeah, our dailies are 21 and 17 years old and I still consider them modern. It's just the realisation that when it was built, a twenty year old vehicle would have been seen as incredibly old fashioned and it would have felt it, too.
