I am considering going to the Goodwood revival this year, I stay in Glasgow and have always ruled out any shows south of the border but went to the Classic car show at the NEC last year and its given me the bug.
Rather than just rush out and buy tickets I wanted to see who has been and if they would recommend it, it is over 7 hours drive and I want to be sure its worth it, should I go for the three days which means organising accommodation in the area or is one day enough, also Id like to take my MGB hillclimb car, is this a good idea or would this be considered too low rent for Goodwood?
Id be going with my girlfriend and see Goodwood as more of an event that she might enjoy, however if there is another show that I should consider then I'm open to suggestions!

Have been going to the revival since its inception, its a great event and, if your first time and traveling such a distance, go for the 3 days. Your car will fit in fine, it is not all Ferrari's Bently's and Rollers! There is a huge cross section of cars in attendance and everyone is very approachable. Having said that look at the Members Meet in April. This is, in my opinion, the best of the Goodwood events, less flash, more enthusiast focused and is more about the racing and cars than the see and be seen of the revival. What ever you choose you will enjoy it. P.

I've only been once, but think two days is enough to take it all in without being in a rush. Three if you're going to luxuriate, eat and drink a lot, which would be hard if the weather is bad as there aren't the spaces. I found it really fun except for the snooty elements, the closed off VIP bits and such. So 80% fun 20% wanting to start a class war.

I am an avid revival fan, absolutely love the whole event and I have been to quite a few events over the country over the last 15 years. If I could only do one event for the rest of my life… it would be Goodwood revival!
Your MGB will be well at home down there for the weekend.
We like to travel about off site in the evenings, go to a few pubs, there is always a really good crowd of like minded enthusiasts out and about with some fantastic machinery floating about. We ended up spending the night in an awesome little pub with a load of the guys from DK Engineering which was great fun. Plus, everyone is dressed up like a curse word which adds to the experience.
I always book locally via Air BnB I’ve had some right results over the last few years and have two that I flit between usually booking a year in advance.
Please go, highly recommended!
Edited to add…
I’ve always gone with the hospitality packages which was always really good up until last year where it all got a bit… rubbish. Really wound us up because these things weren’t cheap. We was offered a discount for the same package this year, however if the experience was the same as last year it would still not be worth it with the considerable discount they were offering. Unfortunately.

It’s brilliant, you will NEVER go to another show with as much attention to detail. Whatever theme they choose it’s always 110% there. Just get the tickets & before you know it, you’ll be booking for the year after

its rubbish don't bother its just full of stuck up tw@t's and toff's,,, Like monty400k said, if it's your first time and you're travelling, do all 3 days. It WILL be an expensive weekend but it'll be one you won't forget. It's got huge, so I think you probably will fill all three days. There's a lot to see and a lot of racing to watch on all three days. The two key races to watch are the St Mary's Trophy on Saturday (mostly Le Mans and BTCC drivers in 50s Saloons - complete carnage) and the Sussex Trophy on the Sunday (same drivers in Cobras, Ferraris, Maseratis, E-Types etc). There's the event itself inside the grounds, the new military display over the back of the circuit, the commercial bit outside the circuit, Bonhams auction and a huge public car show. I'd use the Friday as a sort-of get your bearings and settle in day, work out what's going on and where, then plan out Saturday and Sunday. 99% go in vintage these days. It's worth putting in the effort - Google Images for the sorts of thing to wear. I usually ride down in vintage bike gear.

Got to be one of the best "got to do events" of the year, its amazing how everybody seems to want to partake with the period dressing up etc, but you don't have to, we normally as a group rent a large suite at the Bognor Butlins, one of its advantages, is you are on the other side of Goodwood and work it right with the times you can easily miss the queues

I had intended on going to this, but don’t you have to be a member or part of the fellowship or GRRC?

I’ve done the members meeting numerous times and yes there’s a few toffs about but it is fantastic. No looking over shoulders ten people back to get a view. No looking at cars from behind barriers, access all areas and no big crowds.
You have to be grrc or on the waiting list to be grrc or know someone.

I second all the comments on the Members meeting. I tend to do both days of the members , but being only a handful of miles away I can easily pick and choose. The revival is great and i try and go to at least one day of the three days, but its grown to be almost a part of the 'season' along with the horse racing and polo rather than the cars (Much like the FOS has almost become more about new car sales and corporate entertainment rather than the actual cars, even the Thursday 'quiet' day has become almost too busy for a grumpy git like me)
If I were you travelling that distance i would make a proper weekend / road trip of it. I would however suggest avoiding Air BnB though, as the prices round here skyrocket during any Goodwood event period with a lot of people chancing their arm (I've heard some horror stories from my in to the local rental world..) and i personally know more than a few round here do like to pay for their annual luxury holiday by renting their house for the long weekend.... Try some of the local short term rental companies / holiday cottage type places that tend to be cheaper and much less elusive if you have any issues (I can point you in the direction of a few if needs be)... The suggestion of or one or other of the nearby holiday parks is also a great shout.
The members meeting is supposed to be GRRC members or Fellowship (pay your 50 quid to be on a very very long waiting list and get some dubious perks)
