I’ve finished my last project and need another.
I fancy another mx5 engine and box conversion..
I’m thinking maybe a little Austin A40 or a sunbeam alpine.
So go on, suggestions encouraged. I know picking the engine before the car is wrong, but I’m loving my mgb with an mx5 transplant.

Ooh hadn’t thought of that, could be very cool if left looking scruffy, but with revvy Japanese engine. 😁

A40 (if you mean Farina) may cause problems with the steering crossrod that goes high above the bellhousing. They never seem to get anything transplanted in other than a hot A-series, unlike Moggies which can have Fiat twincams swapped in.
Riley 1.5/Wolseley 1500 is a good shout and you are obviously already experienced in replacing a B-series with an MX5 power unit.
How about a Hillman Minx (or variant) of 50s/60s. Tough axles, Ford stud pattern 4.25", later models have discs on the front.

Mx5 moggy is nose heavy and I have history with a supercharged moggy that went like the clappers. 1.5’s I like but not enough to make a restomod one. Too much rust as well.😂 Hillman minx not a bad shout, but they don’t float my boat.

Midgets. Always ignore these as I’m 6 foot and I’ve never been comfortable in one. Shame as they are cute and must go well with 130 horses. This is my recent mgb mx5 project. Hopefully you get that it’s subtle while being aggressive, that was the intention. I’ve got a mini half built that’s going to last me a few more months but I need to start planning the next one.

Red mini is pukka mk1 Cooper that I’ve been building on and off for years. The blue one is on road and is 69 Cooper but a total mongrel.

Looks like it's edging towards being bmc based. Smaller cars like the a series engined midget sprite and a40 would be cool, or a little bigger to the b series mgb or farina a60. Triumph mayflower? Tr7?

Triumph mayflower, definitely not, always thought they look wrong.
Tr7, I’ve always loved triumphs but a fast tr7 has to be a v8 or dolly sprint engine, doesn’t it?

Love a Chevette. I wanted to fit a Fiat Twincam in mine when I was 17. A quick google probe the mx5 engine does go in. Looks like the servo had to go though

I had a sprint 20 years ago, it was fab.
I always fancied taking a Toledo and making a two door dolomite. I realise it would involve a lot of welding but it would be cool.

But love the thought of a chevette build. Beige with one mismatched door, door mirrors AND wing mirrors halfway down the wings, a subtle drop, and either those Opel Rostyley wheels or standard Chevette ones banded by an inch or so. Bonus points for rivetted digit plates, beaded seat covers, a nodding dog on the rear shelf and one of the letters from the rear badge being missing, so it reads V A X H A L L or something.
