Sometimes we have to give up our retro toys and buy a family wagon, I've seen a few threads on here with some great retro ones but not many. I have a vw sharan 1.8turbo 2004 model, not retro but roots can be traced back to mid 1990s, who else has compromised and bought a retro 7 seater family wagon? Pics would be cool 😎

My modern is a Focus but we have had to give in and buy this to transport our son around due to his health issues 2010 Kia Sedona. Really did not want to be the person who buys a massive people carrier for two kids, but it has one of the few conversions that puts the wheelchair in the middle of the rear seats rather than in the boot, which means he is directly behind us if in case of seizure etc, and also still gets to sit next to his baby sister, which I think pleases her more than him Better handling and wheels would be nice but lowering is sadly not an option as the floor is dropped so low!

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

I've got rid of it now, but I had an S-Max in base, boggo Zetec spec but with the Focus ST 2.5T 5-pot in it. That was quick, handled well and sounded nice. It was basically "unmarked traffic car" spec because it looked so dull. Roomy too: 7 adults were no problem.

This has been my 6 seater family wagon for the past 5 years and I love it. Everything rattles, not all of it works but it's so versatile and converts into a small van in minutes. I'm currently playing cambelt/clutch/ dmf roulette as one of those will likely be its demise. Still, not bad for the £500 I paid for it.

I don't have a need for a people carrier but being a child of the 90s, I have sometimes wondered if I should be getting the pangs of nostalgia right about now and be scouring the net for a Megane Scenic to drop on 17s... Hasn't happened yet I'm quite partial to a Honda Odyssey, they seem to be fairly sleek for a people carrier But one particular MPV will always reign supreme for me, even if it's only a 4 seater

However, I couldn't get permission from the in house accountant to free up some funds, so it remained stock until I sold it. 😃

I've had several 806s over the last few years. Best vehicles I've ever owned. Practical as it gets, seats in for people, seats out for stuff. Can tow a small car ok.
Downsides are, the XUD ones (which are really the only ones financially viable) have become super scarce. Most that come up have issues and they are a bit of a pain to work on.. (although you could say that about most fwd moderns I guess!)

With a young family I've been buying estate cars. We've had 4 so far. 3 Mercedes E350 and one Saab 9-5 Aero HOT. The Mercedes E350 is an awesome car. Hardly a compromise at all. The Saab was quick but terrible MPG, high tax and cheaply made, leather felt like bin liners, door cards were just basic slabs of plastic and the boot wasn't right on it compared with the mercs.
On a semi-related note, as it's retro car rides!! I think our most recent two Mercedes's were too new. The quality of the materials and the design of these cars seems to be getting steadily cheaper and tacky looking. So my next Mercedes estate will be back to the W211 shape. I very nearly got a perfect W211 E500 a few months ago but eBay messed up my bidding and it went to someone else! That was an unhappy time!

I just sold this yesterday. It served very well for a year. 3.5L 4WD all the bells and whistles. I'm replacing it with a 2013 Ford Flex 3.5L Ecoboost AWD.

I’ve been my own accountant for a while now & it’s ace 😀

We ran a pair of pearl yellow Toyota Lucidas. Mine ran on 17 Wolfrace rims. Front and rear custom bumpers from a Honda Integra black widow body kit. 12 speakers including 4 12" subs in the boot area and roof mounted DVD player. Of course the obligatory Pimp my ride/Fast and Furious multi colour changing underbody glow sticks😁. More importantly each child had a separate seat.

Mitusbishi Delica L400 V6 for us. Seats 8, 4wd hi/lo/lock, tows the race car, guzzles fuel. Think it looks rather good too...

I needed a 7 seater and came home with this thing (not the Daimler!) - heaps of space, heaps of tow, and super capable for the occasional (very) light duty family off-roading it gets. Its the 600nm SDV6 too so holds it's own in the traffic light grand prix!

My childhood was spent in a succession of these Both of which went round the clock at least twice with us. Then one of these A quadra just like this one. It stayed with us to 2007 and was on about 450,000 miles and umpteen clutch cables by then. Carbon fibre prop failed late 90s and a replacement couldn’t be found economically even then Occasional stand ins were these Always imports with the extra Japanese market mirrors.
