Fairly modern, but obscure enough that I thought people on here may have experience. My free daily Civic is finally coming to the end of its life. I need something dependable and fairly economical. Whilst looking at basically everything online I stumbled across one of these. On paper seems perfect, 40mpg, 1.6 Chain driven Petrol engine, shares a lot of parts with Micra's and Nissan Notes. So what are peoples experiences? *edit* now thinking Suzuki Liana. All input welcome. Tom

Looks like a different little thing any your example above is stunning but...
This is the HR16DE engine that they made in conjunction with Renault. I would avoid!
General consensus is when its ready for timing chains around 60k (Which it will be.) Its cheaper to replace the whole engine.

Oooosh yea, I have to agree with the above, they would be amongst the very last cars I would consider.
They are very common here in NZ and while I'd like to tell you they were cheap and cheerful, the reality is I find them cheap and nasty.
Keep shopping!

Oh well back to the drawing board. Kinda negates my back up plan of the Nissan Note as they have the same engine.
Finding something fairly economical, reliable and not utterly soul destroying seems to be hard.

Nissan in germany tried to replace the fairly successful Almera with the Note. Big fail.
Then they tried to replace the Note with the Tiida. Even bigger fail.
You hardly see them on german roads, so finding used parts would be a nightmare here.
Southern europe had them longer and was willing to buy the saloon more than the hatch, but that seems to be typical for mediterranian folks.

I think I might go for a Daihatsu Materia instead, or possibly a Yaris Verso

Both much better options for solidity.
Materia with some lows and interesting wheels would be a winner.

Best option of the lot! Especially if you can get it low enough to pull out cats eyes.

I spent 2.5 weeks in New Zealand and hired a car from a 'rent a wreck' type outfit for a week or so. We got a gold Nissan Tiida saloon with gold and cream cloth upholstery, essentially the same as this: www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/TIIDA_LATIO/700056136130211215002/index.htmlI thoroughly enjoyed thrashing it across NZ. Cheap and cheerful motoring. I know nothing of the mechanicals of them, but they'll likely always remind me of happy memories

my daily is about as japanese as it gets, also has a 1.6 and is based on the nissan note. often gets looked at like its just dropped out of the sky. reliable and practical and all that boring stuff. i might need something a little better on fuel soon, but until then I'm happy to get weird looks wherever i go.

A mate used to refer to the Yaris Verso as the "Papal Yaris" due to its popemobile looks.

In other news, I'm going to view some Lianas!
