I am about to renew my driving licence online, needs must being an old fart I just wondered if anyone has done this recently for other reasons and had the new licence arrive without the motorcycle section ? effectively meaning no motorcycle license ! I'm asking as I have heard people have been told they will have to take a new test through no fault of their own. please prove me wrong

I renewed mine recently. I didn't even look at the bike section, I assumed I'd be limited to 50cc or something. But it seems I have an A class motorcycle licence on my car licence. If I'm looking at it right, i can ride.... anything?😳

Did you have a motorcycle licence previously or is this a free bonus?

My dad changed his license when we moved house a good few years ago. Came back without the 7500kg towing part. I can't remember if he got round to trying to get it fixed, but I remember it being tricky without a previous photo of the back of the license.

I renewed mine in the local post office, need a photo and don't have a passport. I'm sure everything else is the same but I don't have the old one to check it against. I was thinking about getting a small car for getting to work a bit cheaper, but mutt motorcycles.......

There are grandfather rights etc for mopeds but you'll probably have category p (lower case), AM and A but you'll have A as a provisional, unless you previously passed a bike test, so would still need a CBT for anything up to 125cc or a full licence for anything over it.

I had to renew mine a couple of years ago and had also read about people losing their motorcycle entitlement when renewing. I kept photocopies of my licence showing the entitlement, did an online licence check which showed the entitlement and wrote a letter explaining what I was entitled to drive/ride. I included the licence check and letter in with my renewal paperwork and had no problems.
From what I’ve read if your licence comes back missing something that you previously had it’s very difficult to get the DVLA to admit they’ve made a mistake and amend your licence.

Did mine and no issues. The no bike entitlement thing mostly happened a few years ago. Take a picture/scan of your current licenceif or download details www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence if you're concerned. I've had no issues with DVLA over that last couple of years getting my new licence within 5 days and a couple of log books within the same time scale. A lot of the negative stuff, not all mind, is self promulgating hearsay.

I renewed mine using this method and all was well. I was concerned with both the bike license and 7.5 ton privilege.

Came back without any *more* catagories removed, but photograph your license for insurance against any mistakes. *had my license revoked for around a year while having tests for epilepsy. I knew I didn’t have epilepsy, passed out in a hospital because of a sudden spike in blood pressure when a dr was putting needles in my 18 month old son and was made to report it to dvla. Lost all my grandfather rights! (kept bike license though thankfully)

Ambulance fetched her and when she got to hospital she couldn't remember what had happened so they revoked her license because it might be a fit! Took over 6 months for that to be sorted out.

i assume this is about pre 96 grandfather rights, moped, 7.5 tonne, road roller, etc etc thing ? and it remaining after a 10 year photo card renewal ?
mine was ok recently, and i did it all online too (they even used a digitised "on-record" photo of me, from 2016 passport so none of that photo booth get it signed by your doctor nonsense)
