So, I'm stumbling through the undergrowth in true David Bellamy style trying to do a little bit of carkeyology to uncover a bit of a barn (garage) find. This is my view to begin with... I'll be honest, the ivy does seem to be dragging the garage back into nature. Actually, the whole garden is a bit of a wilderness. What's in here? I'd love to open the doors, but the ivy seems to have it well tied together, and actually, they may be the main structure of the wooden doors as they're very rotten. My feeling is that once the ivy has been chopped back, then the doors, or whatever is left of them, will just fall off. But looking through one of the broken panes of glass in the doors this is all I can see... Ideas?
I can't get too close to the side window yet as there's more than enough brambles and stinging nettles in the way, but time will tell.
Now, my mission is to hack my way down the path, clearing the garden of all the brambles, weeds, and ivy as I go, then, once it's all cleared and looking more garden like I'll get to the garage to open the doors and have a good peek inside. Clearing the garden bit should be fairly straight forward, but I've really no idea how I'm going to get all that ivy off the garage, but time will tell. I've no idea how long it will take either as I only plan to be doing it when I've got some free time, and, when I can be bothered, as gardening isn't my favorite thing to do.
So, if there's any interest in this becoming a little thread, then I'll update it as and when I go. Who wants in?

There's still quite a few out there rattlecan and finding them is fairly easy, you've just got to talk to a lot of folks, especially old folks. I've found quite a few from just chatting to some old fella while they're filling up their old cars at petrol stations. Sometimes they'll tell you about the other car they've got back home. Same as talking to old guys at car shows and autojumble, they've often got cool stuff tucked away. Also, try to make friends with postman and delivery drivers, they see all sorts of cool old stuff hidden away. In fact last year a friend of mine that delivers for Sainsburys told me about a cool old car that she'd seen, and eventually I got to look at it, and buy it. I won't tell you what it was as it's part of a story that forms a book I'm in the middle of writing where I buy a car every month for a year... Kinda struggling to come up with a title for it at the mo. But anyway what I'm saying is the more people you talk to the better your chances are of finding something cool. I have a friend who delivers building materials to building sites all over the South, he shows me pictures of cars he's found hidden away almost every month! He once went to a property in Kent which had about 60 old cars on it. It was ages before I got to see it for myself, but eventually the old fella let me look for myself, and I even came away with one of the 7 Renault Avantimes he had. But he had far cooler, and rarer stuff than that there. But like I say, talk to people, the more people you talk to the better your chances of stumbling across some cool old stuff will be. Although, it might take a while, I've been chatting to this elderly lady for ages now trying to get her to show me her mk1 Sciroccos that she's had in her barn since the early nineties. Will I get to ever see them? Who knows, but hopefully I will, although apparently they're not for sale. Anyway, there seems to be a bit of interest in my little thread, so I'll post a pic as and when I do any garden clearance. But for now, I'll share a pic of the first barnfind I found and bought... A 1977 Firebird Formula that had just 28,000 miles from new, and had been in a barn since 1984. That thing was almost like a new car. Updates as they occur...

Hi, Dealing with Ivy. Follow it back to the ground and cut it there, you will need to go round and find all of them, because it produces suckers that go back to the ground and help feed the whole plant. Then leave it and it will die off and release its hold on the building and just pull it off.
Note: I didn't say it was easy but is effective although not instant.

Looks like a Mk4 5dr (or a Mk3 with later mirrors grafted on, common in the 90s). Also looks like maybe Aqua Blue (or Arctic Blue if it's a Mk3). Hard to tell in that light, could just be Stratos Silver! Also, some interesting vent covers on the bonnet ...
I love little gems hidden away like this, waiting to be brought back to life. Not so keen if it involves trespassing though, I have to say.

ivy vs clematis, best friends forced to do battle. we must fight jim, or they will...kill us both. Hi, Headless roses brambles are another. It's best to find the roots and dig them out, suckers as well. If you cut them with secateurs they will just carry on growing again but if you crush the cut end they can't. I'm by no means a gardening expert, just someone who has found out through continuing battle hardening. Colin

I'm in. (Even if he is trespassing!) Looks mk3 Escort to me but could well be mk4 Escort/Orion like frag says. Mirrors are different mk3-4 the mk3 are more square with a inlayed groove around back/casing. It could be a mk3 with mk4 mirrors… But looking at the swage in the bonnet,I’d say it’s a mk4. I can see it’s a more door, but not if it’s a saloon / Orion or hatch / escort.
