I've set a goal to get the driverside rear inner arch all sorted on the Beetle by the time I go back to work on January 10th. If I get more done that will be a bonus.

I should get a few days free for car stuff hopefully. Legend needs the coilovers adjusting, or regular struts swapping on, and the heater blower needs investigating  Got a set of wheels that need finishing off if I can get some semi decent weather for painting  Need to change spark plugs and do a little carb fettling on the Suzuki before sale  In the highly unlikely event that I get all that done, then there's always stuff to be done on the MG, and a new retro motorbike project due to arrive imminently 😂 |

I have been trying to get the Marlin road ready, the plan was to take the wife out in it for the first time on Boxing day. That did not occur because a) the seats are still not back in, b) it has minimal weather equipment and it was raining most of the day. Other plans were to de Gerald the boot rack and wheels (currently painted gold), also unlikely to happen until the wife is firmly nailed back to her desk from the 5th Jan. I will probably be allowed to fix the Jeep's heater fan which failed yesterday, as she likes us to take the dog to Thetford Forest in it whenever she is off work.

I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll get this running right and on the road by 2022.  Think the overheating has been sorted, and there's an intermittent issue with fuelling...the engine isn't always getting any! So drop tank, flush hard lines, replace all rubber lines, and try to bodge in a replacement fuel pump. I WILL get there 😂😂😂 So how far did everyone get? Cracked a brake line, snapped the outlet on the fuel pump hanger, BUT she's running. Only been around the car park and back, will be sorting insurance tomorrow and venturing the 4+ miles to the petrol station hopefully! |

Who'd have thought organising tools could be so therapeutic?
Spanners in little racks that had to be tickled with the sander to get them to fit the drawers of tool chests.
Destroyed the case of my old Halfords Pro socket set to use part of the moulding to line the drawers and hold the longer sockets in place and arranged the smaller ones on a rail system.
Every time I get out there it looks a little better and gets a bit more functional.
Double glazing guys coming in a couple of weeks, when they do the house they're also putting in a new garage window and personnel door, then I can finish painting the walls.

Seats and belts back in the Marlin, fixed the heater blower on the Jeep, cleaned Jeep and both Jags, started making a drawer unit for the pantry, salvaged more old door furniture, locks etc for reuse (mostly original brass which had n layers of paint over it), taught the wife how to strip paint using a heat gun. I'm reasonably happy with that.

I only got slightly more than nothing done 😅 got two wheels pretty much finished and loosely bolted together for now  Taken an extra week off work to do the rest... Probably not going to happen 😅 |

1st
I was given a Revell Apollo 11 Saturn V Rocket kit for Christmas, so I have ordered all the paints etc and tomorrow is my day off so clothes pegs, sharp knife, file, elastic bands, cement etc is getting bought. Been a LONG time since I built a model!
2nd
I was given a gigantic Lego Technic Heavy Duty Tow Truck, so I bought an old cheap desk, with large drawers, in the local charity shop to build on/store stuff......
Thats the rainy cold evening sorted for a bit....

Well technically I failed, but to be honest it feels like a win for me.
The Beetle is in my brothers garage and we have completely tidied out and sorted out the garage so it's a really great place to be and to work now. Including having a sitting area and a clear work bench. I also managed to help out some people with their cars as well.
Beetle work wise a really good friend came over on Sunday 9th and gave me the confidence to just stop fannying about and cut the rot out and weld new in. So the inner arch including body mount is now all tacked in ready for me to finish welding it on Saturday.
Mojo is at an all time high, feels great after basically not touching the Beetle since end of July

Beetle work wise a really good friend came over on Sunday 9th and gave me the confidence to just stop fannying about Sometimes that's all it takes is a 2nd person to bounce ideas off of or remind you how far you've come - they don't even need to be much of an expert. Like you I find that one success working on motors makes me keen to push on for another one...it's addictive. Congrats on the mojo boost. |
