Sometimes friends are not that friendly BUT someone once said to me if they find a diamond in the street should they sell it to me for a tenner because it cost them nothing...forget what he paid for it it doesn't matter, if the going rate is £17500 and its worth it someone else will buy it, what if its worth £25k in 2 years you will be gutted ...its hard but forget what he paid for it, what if he did sell it to you for £13500 and then in a month you don't like it and you get offered £17500 would you give your friend the £4000. Wise words mate

Wise words mate My Uncle lived in Plymouth. Someone he knew won the lottery, quite a few years ago. One of his mates had always wanted his own fishing boat He bought him one The mate was horrified ‘ you can’t spend that, it’s far too much money to spend on me!’ The lucky winners response? ‘Give me a quid, that’s what it cost me’ Sorry for non car content 😁

Having had another 24hrs to think on it since I spoke to the fella, my thoughts are that the advice about not worrying about what he paid for it is wise, and if it's worth £17,500 now, or even in a couple of years with the way prices are going, it's not something to just dismiss. However, £17,500 is a huge chunk of money which would probably mean me selling pretty much all my fleet to fund the purchase, and that's just a step too far for me right now.
To clarify, I have no issue with the owner setting his sell price as he has. There's nowt worse when you're trying to sell a car these days than chirpers saying you're asking too much. Like, really? If you're not interested, just scroll on by mate. The owner probably knows more about values of these than I do, and like somebody said in an earlier post, he doesn't have to sell to me for a touch more than he paid for it, especially if he got a bargain.
Great advice from everyone by the way. It's been interesting to read and mull over.

Stay in contact with him, who knows what anyone's future holds. I know him from all the car shows up in the North East. Known him a good few years, so I'll still see him about and still be chatting to him on a regular weekend car show basis.

The question you need to ask yourself is do you need a fleet of cars. At one point in my life I have 8 cars and I loved them all but I realised that only one of them really got used. I sold them all and got one car that ticked all the boxes and it worked so much better for me. I had more time to actually enjoy it rather than always having stuff to do to keep one of them going. At the beginning of this year I changed jobs and it was unfair to travel my longer journey in my beloved Ford Escort. I bought a practical car (Meriva A OPC) and I could have left the Escort in my garage but then I thought why? That's not what cars are for. A 280z is definitely not going to get cheaper and it is one of those cars that you should get whilst you can and that particular one looks 1A. Give it some thought.
