Having watched and been inspired with the videos & music from 00Mike00 with his synthwave, made me reminisce of music going hand in hand with driving and recalling watching the BBC Network Q RAC rally with their intro music by the German band Propaganda. Having purchased many an album this went hand in hand driving my old German Opel Monza in anger! Made me think of my dads old Citroen DS Safari listening to Jean Michel Jarre! Very French! 😎 What music takes you back to certain cars & why?

First thing that springs to mind is The Who takes me back to Sundays in a Maxi with dad. I think the tape must have been stuck in the player because I honestly cant remember any other music that clearly being played in the Maxi. I can remember the exact moment, also in a Maxi, that I heared the Orbs Little fluffy clouds for the first time, at about 7am on a freezing cold morning whilst waiting to get into an autojumble. Further back than that when dad had his wolseley I can remember he had a tape that had a pic of a jukebox on it, and all I can remember is an unmistakable 'Chhee-eeeee-eeeee-eeeery baby' I get genuine flashbacks when I hear it now.
When I passed my test it was happy hardcore and Jungle in the Mini. Made me drive like a tit. Still does.

My first XR3i, the black album by Metallica, driving home from seeing an ex-girlfriend in her uni digs.
It was my first semi-decent stereo install, an amp from Tandy (nobody I knew had any kind of amp!) and Pioneer speakers in a reinforced parcel shelf

Way back in the mid 1980's my first job was as an Estate Agent. My boss had a brand new silver XR2 company car. He went on holiday for 2 weeks and was foolish enough to leave the car for me to use (only for essential appointments and to pick him up from the airport after his holiday). It only had one cassette in it - Don Henley's Boys of Summer. I did hundreds and hundreds of miles in the car in those 2 weeks (and got ripped a new one by him when he got back for doing so!), but now can't help but think of that XR2 every time I hear Boys of Summer on the radio.

Had a pair of those in my old Mini 25! For me it was Huey Lewis and the News' Power of Love - this was the first song I played on my first solo drive in my first car. Who cares that was on a TDK cassette in a no name stereo? Every time I hear that song it takes me back to that November evening 😎

When I bought my '71 Wolseley 1300, in 2006, the radio was set on the concert programme. I started pushing preset buttons and to my surprise and pleasure it started belting out Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride, something which might have been playing on the radio when the car was new and a fair description of BMC's hydrolastic suspension.

When I had my dolomite 1500HL in 1999 I distinctly remember listening to CDs on my discman plugged into the radio cassette with one of those cassette to 3.5mm plug leads.
The main album on repeat then was Performance & Cocktails by Sterephonics, the BHP I gained from that album was unmeasurable.
Definitely Maybe by Oasis had a similar affect on my right foot too.
Surrender by The Chemical Brothers was another regular play during that period in my Dolomite.

The Maccabees album Given to the Wild always reminds me of late night drives in my MGB either from my mates house at uni or on evening parts runs Another one that always sticks in my mind was from around the late 90s at a guess, a mates dad and his parter had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth and an Escort RS Cosworth. We were coming back from a birthday party I think it was (would have been about 8-10 at the time) half of us in the Sierra and half in the Escort, and blasting along the A14, flame coming from the Escort exhaust . Anyway, the song that sticks in my mind is Wham's Wake me up Before you Go Go which was came on the radio at one point, no particular reason but its just stuck. I think the Sierra was this Purple-ish colour and the Escort was Black

Thought of another one. Hearing one of these playing absolutely anything makes me think of cars, proper classic cars, all of 'em, Authough its a 'funfair organ', ive never heared one at a funfair, and there was usualy one playing at a Classic show, Bromley for one. Gets a bit long in the tooth when you're on a stand less than a stones throw from one.
