This hobby is problematic. There's a lot of stuff out there and you can't possibly own/experience it all. Sometimes, a car gets stuck in your head and you can't budge it out again. Sometimes, even when the cars you've got are completely satisfactory, you just can't shift that urge to get involved with something else. That's fine if you've got limitless space and money, but most of us live in the real world and don't have that luxury. Unfortunately, I'm one of those people. Suffice to say, the two cars I've got I like very much, they're both wishlist cars for me and one of them I've had for many, many years. Even with the less desireable periods of breakages and unreliability, rust busting and awkward parts finding, I am still very attached to both of them. I'm happy, I don't need to change them and yet... and yet... The Citroen Dyane. I've wanted one of these for years. I've wanted one of these from when I used to think I wanted a 2CV and then I found out Dyanes exist. I've never been able to shift this desire to acquire and have only been stopped by circumstance. They're a moderately rare beastie so fortunately temptation doesn't appear that often. The trouble is, every time my other cars are being problematic... It's an issue. I know that the Dyane is very basic, I know they're noisy, I know they're not fast. None of these things bother me, if anything it adds to the appeal. I know what I like. #whynotjustbuymorecars

I might be a nob but what is "  "? = non-breaking space, hard space, (the gap between the sentences in this instance). I suspect vulgalour has copied & pasted text from the BBCode page and started again in the main Preview page?

I did Google "nbsp" and found exactly what you are writing. It didn't make sense to me. Thanks

Calm down guys, until vulgalour gets back to explain what went wrong, and I suspect he may, like me contribute to up to 10 forums and sometimes to copy and paste text makes life a bit easier. So sometimes when I copy and paste from this forum previews, the text comes up screwed up too.. BACK TO THE POST..... I was a member of 2CVGB for many years, wanted one so badly Given the choice, a Dyane would be even more on my list, if I could find one.

Not on my list what so ever but I can fully appreciate where vulgalour is coming from - some of us are very different in what motors appeal to us - much has I like a V8 burble - I also very much love my little 1500cc Jowett Javelin - quirky as the day is long - not very quick - loads of foibles etc - I already have several Jowett projects stashed away too to the point I ran out of storage room 2 cars ago for them - Yet when another project Javelin appeared on the horizon last month did I say to myself absolutely not you fool - you have no where to keep it and will never find enough time to sort it - Nope instead I bought it and relished the fact that I can do what I've always wanted to do - build one Javelin into a livered unique special and retain the other as an all original car - Sometimes we will never learn and never be told - and long may it stay that way - if you cant behold a few of life's wishes & desires then why the hell do we work so hard for what we have No quandary about it - just go and make it happen - somehow !

My Uncle used to have one of these when I was a kid, dad used to call it a 2CV, but even then I thought he was wrong. I prefer the shape of these to a 2CV, and when they get lows, like the one above, they are as cool as it gets. Like you say, they are slow, they are noisy, and when they sit that low they probably drive like a wooden cart, but you could probably say the same about a beetle and that never put anyone off.
I'm not going to make things any easier by saying the Dyane is probably the one id choose over your other 2, but that means nothing when you already own them. If you really can only have 2 cars and you need rid of one, given that the Dyane isn't exactly a motorway muncher perhaps it comes down to something like that. Or just buy one and think about it later. Or just buy one.
Buy one.

Sometimes, even when the cars you've got are completely satisfactory, you just can't shift that urge to get involved with something else. I know that feeling ever so well. It’s a deep philosophical question isn’t it, why when we already have some cars we think are great do we always desire something else that we don’t own. On top of this, invariably if I decide to sell the car I currently have that I like very much, to buy something ‘better’. As soon as I see someone out enjoying the previous car that ‘why did I ever sell it’ thought comes back round. I find re-reading my own build thread a good way of reacquainting myself with the journey I’ve been on and why my current car is the car I choose to own out of all the millions out there. Equally re-reading old threads can take me back on the ownership journey with cars I’ve sold and remind me of the ownership experiences, good and bad, not just those rose tinted memories and ultimately remind me of why I decided it was time to move on. Sometimes though, it’s just time for a change. Life requires changes. The Dyane has a quirky charm. We live in changing times, maybe now the time is right... .

Do it. I'm fully aware this is a 2cv, but I'd imagine a Dyane would be pretty much the same underneath.
Filmed at some internet forum show.

I might be a nob but what is "  "? = non-breaking space, hard space, (the gap between the sentences in this instance). I suspect vulgalour has copied & pasted text from the BBCode page and started again in the main Preview page? Exactly that. I accidentally posted this in the wrong section first, then copypasta'd it into this section. Not sure how I managed to not see the bits of code when I reposted it, I'm sure they weren't there, and they aren't there now because I've gone back and edited the post.
It's also good to see this is not a unique problem. I definitely don't want a van either, I want the passenger car. Not being able to go on a motorway not an issue, either of my other two can managed that fine (arguably the Dyane could too, it's just my other two are better at it).
Prices and scarcity of supply are likely to prevent a purchase more than anything else, even tatty Dyanes are out of impulse purchase territory these days and it is a tatty example I want as usual, rather than a super lovely shiny one. No point in getting a car if it all you have to do is drive it and enjoy it, where's the fun in that?

I must admit I've got a lurking enthusiasm for the 2CV family. I wouldn't say no to a Dyane, although I do particularly like the early 2CV models, which are really basic (as opposed to the later models, which are just basic).
I'm also interested in UK-built Citroens, which featured British components and styling tweaks (Lucas electrics! Polished wood dashboards!). Even the 2CV was built in the UK at one time.
This one ticks all the boxes for me. It's got to be the only car that makes a Series Land Rover look sophisticated and luxurious. I love the interior light that also doubles as a speedometer spotlight. Who needs instrument panel lights? Come to that, who needs an instrument panel?

Thanks mate Without "cut and paste" my work days would be much longer....Why invent the wheel twice! I had a few 2CV6's. Not that much different from a Dyane. I would love to own one again. We drove our red 2CV6 with mini trailer from Dordrecht (in Holland) all around France. We loved it. We didn't see highways. I can highly recommend one. Most smiles per miles!!

This thread reminds me of Brian Damaged I currently have 6 dailies parked at work. I completely understand. I find the best (by which I mean, absolute worst) way is just to buy them and figure out where to put them afterwards.
