Remember the body kits from the 90's? Is the trend heading back around again? Some of the body kits you get now can look good. But some of them make cars look bloated

90's bodykits are a funny one for me, by which I mean in the '90's I was in full-on classic car show mode, weekends consisted of cars from the '50s and '60s, so I don't relate to 90's cars in the 'normal' way. However, on the way to school one day I found this parked around the corner from my house. To this day I don't know why the Max Power BMW was there, but drooling over it made me late for school. Car fashion, like music, seems to have a 20-25 year turnaround, so Id say it was about time. The bodykits, to me, are along the same lines as '70's crazy customs, which of course came 20 years before the '90s (my maths is so damn strong), so bring it back!

Well there appears to be several types of body-kit:
The blended where it's tough to see where it starts and ends like the beemer above, or
The stick on versions like that black Polo above. Didn't they do a bodykit for the back bumper as well?!
Me personally, I like the look of the beemer with its Testarossa side kit!

Pushing it a bit with a Dimma kit on a Peugeot? It did allow me to find this though.

I grew up in the next village to Carlton Automotive/Delta styling so I'll always have a perversion for OTT kits. I really need to get round to finishing the one for my Saxo.

I deliberately stayed out of this thread (if you have nothing nice to say...) but was prompted to come in after seeing a faded red Ford Probe today, with a period body kit. The driver appeared to be wearing Elvis sunglasses as well!
Dimma 205 gets the OK as it appears to be based on the T16 group b cars?

I was up in Camden with my girlfriend and that car appeared, was pretty crazy seeing it in real life. I must have been 18 at the time & had seen it in the mag. Project XS wasn’t it?

I think I only ever bought two issues of Max Power, the first and the last. I remember that the first had a purple Dimma 205 on the cover, which I thought was awesome at the time. Have to admit to being not so keen on them now!

Have to admit to being not so keen on them now! I used to buy them when I was 17, have to admit. Mind you there wasn’t any internet to be looking at and you’re waiting a month to see a new load of mags in the shops. Strange to think back what things were like. We get access to so much instantly these days. There was actually a Ferrari F40 in one of the early mags. It all went a bit stupid very quickly though.

I too have bought more than a few Max Power magazines...
At one point I was spending £50-60 a month on car mags, but I don't buy any now (partly the Internet, partly my family and financial situation is different).
Despite never being a big body kit fan, I remember feeling actual sadness when I caught sight of the "last ever" Max Power, IIRC it was in a motorway services.
Thinking about this has made me think of a subwoofer that was featured in MP (IIRC), a clamshell isobaric kit from MB Quart. I might have a Google!

Revs magazine seemed to start well but went the same way. Back onto body kits, I liked the Kat ones for Capris and SD1s.

Yeah that was it, I forgot the name of it. I remember thinking that it looked like it was supposed to look that way, probably helped by the flared wings instead of having arches on it. I guess the bodykit trend has never really gone away in some parts of the world.

Always fancied a mk3 Escort with a KAT Designs bodykit. Saw one of these one day parked in the drive of a house I was working in... Thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen at the time!

Not quite as mad as a '90's bodykit, I've been trying to get hold of one of these bodykits for my Carlton project...

I have to admit the Max Power cars were pretty much pure porn to me when I was 18 ish. Project Thunder corr what a car. But I never really got the Kat kits.

One spotted very recently. It looked exceptionally tidy, and it's unusual to see a Saxo on three stud wheels these days. Not sure if it was a factory kit, or if it was just a decent aftermarket one, the whole car looked very tidy.
