I'm also guilty of going to events, making some photo's, but never share them, so i started this years trip with the idea to correct that
In the weeks leading upto the Gathering, i had my engine in pieces as it had a bit of a boo boo and kicking a rod out. Got it all back together about 1,5 weeks before we left, so i did some major testruns, consisting of my daily commute to work, about 1km each way....
So, with at least 30km on the new engine, I left for the ferry on Thursday morning, meeting up with my mate somewhere on the Belgian motorway in his mk3 Golf.
After a nice trip through sunny Belgium, France and the UK, we reached our hotel on Thursday evening, a quick look at the rear of my car confirmed what i was allready thinking on the way over. The car stank of burnt oil and i was missing 1L of oil after the first 500km.
So the broken rod/piston - valve interference must've done more damage to the head then just a bent valve. Didn't have time to check/replace the valve guides, but probably should've done.
After a nice stay in the hotel, we drove to the campsite on friday noon, where we setup camp, in the rain. I was happy with my (not totally waterproof) gazebo!
After the big showers where gone, we did a lap around the campsite to see what's there:
Some beers and talks happened and somehow the next morning happened!
The view from the gazebo was much, MUCH better then the day before:
We even did some shopping with the roof down, taking yoeddynz with us
After returning, another lap of the campsite happened, to see what arrived in the mean time, it's always nice to get a bit of a pre-gathering show on the campsite.
Rain from the day before was hard on the campsite, as demonstrated by this Civic full of it
Famous people had also arrived!
Another night of beers and talks happened and very soon afterwards it was Sunday allready, showtime!
The ride into the showfield started with a great view!
Parked at the BNMAC stand, which was full of awesome cars
I had to do a double take at this Firenza, i really like them, but the engine sitting like this baffled me. Untill i learned about the 4WD Calibra drive train. Top work!
Another inspired engine choice.
I also brought some requested Stroopwafels, of which most where gone after the day, so i hope everybody who took some liked them
i really liked these 2 Jurassic Park inspired cars, also top marks for playing the Jurassic Park movies in the gazebo the night before and i think i also saw some Jurassic Park raincoats on Friday.
Proper sleeper this, i liked it!
Do i hear diversity?
I think jamesd1972 made a similar picture to this:
And then it was all over...
Had a bit of a drive to Canterbury on monday where we stayed another night in a hotel, with a great Wetherspoons beneath it, so had a nice real ale with a view before heading off to bed.
And then back home on Tuesday, so after 5 days of travelling and about 900miles i parked the car at home, tired, but happy.
Sadly i never got to meet luckyseven and hand over some stroopwafels, but there's always a next time, i think?
Nice tospeak ignore some of the BNMAC people, all in all it was a great weekend!
See you at the Weekender!
