I do not know if anyone has had this happen before but last Saturday night I noticed some strange behaviour out side my house regarding my mustang. I heard a car pull up outside the house at about 1.15 in the morning and it sat here for about five minutes doing nothing, thinking this was strange I took a look and noticed that the people inside the stationary car seemed to be writing something down while looking at my mustang then they appeared to take some photo's of the car, then they drove up my drive to get closer to the mustang and took some more photo's. Thinking this was not right I proceeded to turn on the lights to go out side and ask if there was a problem but the moment I put on the house lights the car drove off very fast.
I was wondering if any one else has seen activity like this before and was it worth reporting as there has been a lot of classic car thefts in the area lately, I also did manage to get the reg, make and model of the car in question.

Thats interesting, where do you live kusanagi? I ask this because a couple of weeks ago while I was out on my evening stroll I noticed a man photographing cars, and their numberplates late at night on my estate. I followed him from some distance up the street while he did this to several cars, and when he finally stopped at my Mustang and started snapping away I approached him and asked him what he was up to. Only to be told on no uncertain terms he was not doing anyfin illegal, and to F-off and my me own business! Now I told him that it was my car he was photographing, so it sort of was my business, but he didn't see it my way. But he then walked quite quickly away! The thing is, having a different car does mean that people photograph it, and I don't mind that, but the fact was that he photographed the front numberplate close up first, then walked around the car. Anyway, i moved my Mustang to a different location, and informed plod about it. But yeah, it's odd, and like Mercdan68 said, report it, and block your car in.

Definitely report it and do what you can to secure the car more. There seems to of been a recent spike in classic car thefts again judging by posts in the "stolen" section on here.

Who would it be best to report it to, as the police would not be interested in it as no crime has been committed.
As for securing the car I have since taken the front wheels off and put it on axle stands and fitted a monster wheel clamp to the back axle, plus the car still does not have an engine or an interior fitted ( but you cannot tell this from the road ).

They got pictures and noted the description - fake ad will now appear on ebay. Some fool will part with their money without actually seeing the car which of course the 'seller' doesn't actually have because it's parked in your driveway.

Having no engine or interior will make little difference if someone wants to take it, it could get lifted from where its sat. Simple folk are suprisingly brainy when it comes to getting what they want.

PCSO or local ward officer if you have one, they will gather intelligence and know whether or not this is happening else where. My local ones seem to be on the ball for this kind of stuff. Definitely very suspicious, if it was just a non descript run of the mill car then their probably looking for plates to clone but something like a Mustang and that time of day then they are looking to have that away i'd reckon sadly.

As already mentioned just do what you can to make life harder for them. You could report it to the plod, but it will just be 10 mins of your life you won’t get back. They will do zip. Tbh not much they can do but, I had an RS2000 that ‘was’ stolen & they still weren’t interested in the slightest.

I’d report it, I’m not saying that you will achieve anything by doing so,
But by not reporting it, you take away the possibility of something being done. Infuriating as it is to deal with apathy, if there are enough reports of the same vehicle then you’d hope they may be more likely to set a flag on ANPR or something
Not had this happen, but had a van broken into years back whilst on site... and would wake up and check the van for a long time after every time someone walked past the house, Could you fit a cheap cctv camera, that can put them off a bit, even at night with the red glow (and in my case helped me to relax at night)

As above, report it to plod as the will have to record it, and secure your car. You could put a self contained alarm on it.
I do wonder the minset of these people, blatant scumbags

You need to report it, as it goes towards local crime stats which affects annual policing budgets. I agree there is little they can currently do but DEFINITELY ALWAYS report suspicious activity to 101 or your local station. If you want police on your streets, you need to let then know there is crime for them to deal with.

How well do you get on with your neigbours? Might be worth asking if they've noticed any other similar dodgy activity. The more evidence you can pool together the better, and if you can look out for each other (within the constraints of the law obviously!) then that's a good thing.
I do wonder if things like the "spotted" thread on here, and similar ones on other forums are fueling this sort of thing. The more I think about it I really don't approve of posting pictures of other people's cars outside their house or on private property- anywhere that's potentially identifiable really.

I know it’s a bit late now but always report it.
In your circumstance don’t faff about with 101 especially in the early hours. Call 999 when you first see it as the suspicious activity you draw reference to is so suspicious that it would warrant an immediate response.
I’m not sure of your location if it’s rural or not but clearly this is very dodgy behaviour. If something like this happens again try to make a note of the vehicles index without alerting them or putting yourself at risk. Trust me people abuse the 999 system with chod, this is not one of them!

Our local facebook police accounts are constantly putting up "report any suspicious activity, people, vehicles etc" posts, so I guess they are interested - well, here at least. Adds motivation (hopefully) for them to look into it and gather stats so maybe they can figure out what and where is being targeted.
