We are hopefully moving to a new house soon and I’m finally getting my garage. Albeit only a single but It should be good enough for my needs I hope.
I’m just looking for inspiration from fellow retro riders as what they have done to the garages and man caves.
Cheers

Workbench, as much shelving as you can manage, a decent tool box and security!
I have a double garage with a single door and access door allows me to lock the garage door from the inside for extra security.
Lighting and power, the more the better i have 10+ power points and 8 5ft tubes which i am putting LED tubes into.
Paint the place to make it feel less like a garage I also have rubberised floor tiles which just wipe clean and are nicer on your feet and much warmer to kneel on.
Then buy whatever curse word you like! I'm currently trying to acquire a traffic light.

little cosy chair arrangement in the corner for having bears Did you keep many bears? lol A friend of mine when he moved in to his first own house, with empty garage, took the time to paint it, walls and floor. The floor he used some washable rubbery paint I think. Then he mounted shelves and racks, all thought out in advance, so high, foldable and strong etc depending on the needs. He put large strong shelves up near the roof for storage, and ran in some extra plugs. All the kind of things you wish you had in your old garage. Thankfully when I moved into my current house, a few years ago some old boy had did a little bit of mechanicing work from the garage so it already had a few plugs and benches and high shelves in it.

The hardest bit is keeping it clear of curse word (if you have kids). I moved into a new house a couple of years ago with a single garage, I put my big rollcab in it, a decent bench, compressor, mig welder, plasma cutter and racking all up one side and finally the most important thing - a beer fridge. I stood back very happy with myself but about 5 minutes later it was full of old kids buggys, bikes, scooter boxes of CDs, magazines and all that other curse word you collect. Currently there is a narrow path through it from the back door to the front of it. Gutted. Honesty, I could have an aircraft carrier and I'm sure if would end up full of curse word.

When you're building your shelves, and you think to yourself "That's plenty of shelves."
You're wrong. So very very wrong. Put shelves everywhere. Make that garage hold as much curse word as it can and there will always be space to work in.

A Neon sign featuring the logo of the car manufacturer is a must IMO

Rule one of garage.. No alcohol............. Rule one in my garage is “must have full fridge”! Mind you, I did fabricate a steel back gate last year that didn’t look quite as square as I thought it was when I went to fit it the next day.

Cheers Your very first job is to purchase & erect a shed - therefore all the curse word that you don't want in the garage can go in the shed - leaving you room to do things that you actually want to do in the garage

First thing to understand is what ever you do, 6 months later you’ll want to change things ........
Agree on getting a shed .....esp if you have kids or a swmbo who just dumps stuff in the garage at her whim ......ahem ......
Next is what i wished i had done ... hindsight is wonderful though .....
First get a shed .... for reasons already stated. (Still don't have one ........)
Upgrade the power to the Garage from the house ..... (still need to do this after nearly 15 yrs)
Paint it inside, walls and floor before filling with my useful stuff, and everyone else’s junk.
Devote one entire wall to storage, shelves cupboards etc. Make the shelves adjustable.
Fit decent lights, not just down the middle of the garage roof, some to the sides are Good.
Plumb in a water supply. Stop trudging to the house to fill whatever ...
Plan you Electric sockets ,fit them at waist height stop them getting clobbered by stuff, add some 16 sockets aswell. don't go adding to many, think anout how and where you’re going to work. Use a proper trip box.
And if it don't already, fit a side door ...... ( still needing to do mine ... only been 15 yrs ....)

Measure the length of your garage to make sure your car will fit - Up to the garage door, not like I did - Up to the outside edge of the garage.
I have to do a really awkward body-popping-snake through the drivers window and out the other side, catching the CROWN jewels on the handbrake or gearstick. Car fits so snugly I cannot walk around it, and getting irked with my own footprints on the bumpers....

Cheers Your very first job is to purchase & erect a shed - therefore all the curse word that you don't want in the garage can go in the shed - leaving you room to do things that you actually want to do in the garage This. Then erect a 2nd shed, because the 1st will soon be full of curse word. We moved to our current house 3 yrs ago. Only has a single garage (attached to the house, with door through to utility room, very handy!) in which I am restoring my VW T25 camper, so workable floor space is at a premium. Garage has a pitched roof, so the rafters are boarded in, shelves fitted up in these, all full of curse word! Next thing i did was build 8x8 shed (limited by available space out back), this too is full of curse word. I have since put up a set of shelves all the way around the edge of the garage hanging about 12" down from the rafters, so everything is well up out of the way and off the floor, these too are full, mostly tools and useful stuff, tubes of silicone, sealant, paint, sprays, etc. I am about to build a 2nd shed out back after clearing loads of shrubs and curse word out, and digging out a small earth bank. I can imagine a 3rd shed going up at some point in the future too
