Or Mercedes whatever they were? Because look at this: If that were a corresponding age VW T2 or Citroen H, it'd be slammed and rimmed or a coffee truck by now! I think they're awkwardly charming, if that makes sense? And I think that one would look great just a little lower, with a mild banding of the steels and maybe some chrome caps and rings. Also available as a Merc: Can I find a modified one anywhere? No. Why not?

Because they're really hard to find I guess. I was looking a couple of years back, let's face it, there is, comparatively, a butt load of VW's and Citroens.

When I grew up in Holland, they were kind of popular as racecar haulers. The rear axle could be widened really easy, so the racer could fit between the rear wheels, with a singlecab body. The cool kids had the Mercedes version because ( if I remember right ) they had a different bellhouse to fit a Mercedes Diesel. And that same bell would also bolt to a Mercedes 4 cyl Petrol engine, so now you could outrun your buddies with Hanomags, when they were hauling their racers home... ( The one I knew was a slower Hanomag, though...)
From what I remember, that singlecab was not a nice place to be in ( slow, cramped, and loud)
If I'd do a van again, I'd be tempted to do another Alfa Romeo F12. Until I'd think about it for more than two seconds, and reality sets in ( I had one and it was just not a good vehicle...) But then there was the Mk1 Transit that I replaced the Alfa with, and I do have fond memories of that one. Except for the rough running V4 ( I had a souped up version out of a Consul GT ), it was superior in every way to the Hanomag & the Alfa.

I think Mercedes 208D and the like are definitely ripe for some mods .. I'd say the Mercedes MB100 probably even more so.

Another piece of Dave Rothwell wizardry. I bought the original 1930's mechanicals from his Standard 12 some years back, nice guy.

Josef Ganz (the guy who Dr. Ing. Porsche took idea for the beetle from) was mad about them. Plenty of cool German cars that you don’t see outside of Der Vaterland
