Well I only went and fell down the bl**dy hole didn't I! No damage done only bruises and grazes, it's only about 5 foot deep. I looked like right wally though. Anyway. Windscreen glass polished and plastic restore applied to front end plastics. Think I'll call it a day!

paint has come up really well ! Hasn't it just. Really must get a machine polisher. Fortunately, the hole seems not to have suffered too much either.

So this has been unearthed at work. Its a car used by 31 Sqn while they where based in Germany and driven back to the UK around 2004, where its been sat since. Its a Mercedes W123 280E. Unfortunately the keys are long gone so we had to cut off the steering lock to get it out of its garage. Its surprisingly solid. the only rust on it is in the rear arches and front valance. However it has been brush painted black. its originally silver. Obvious other additions being the 31 Sqn "Goldstar" mock taxi chequer down the sades, orange lights on the roof and dixie horns under the bonnet. Club Mitglied? 298869km on the clock And the engine. Its a 2.8 DOHC straight six on mechanical fuel injection. It turns on a spanner so we stuck some jump leads on and turned it over. There was no fuel pump buzz so there's no fuel being delivered but it turns over and makes good oil pressure. Unfortunately I have not time or space for another car so a mate is taking this on. I'll update any progress and hopefully we'll see it running soon

Club-Mitglied means club member, in this case of the ADAC, the German equivalent of the RAC or AA. Nothing special, I'm afraid ...

Tiny little update on the disco. Got the roof polished today between rain showers. This was one of the worst parts of the car. Given that they're so tall, I don't think the roof gets washed much. Also the new lambda plug turned up today so hopefully tomorrow I can get that to the range rover so that this can have its lambda sensor back and then I can time it up properly

Well it runs! It really wants new HT leads but there are no nasty noises and really good oil pressure. Happy with that!
Just needs front shock absorbers now

The Merc has been dug out of some very familiar garages Can’t work out if that’s Swanny’s car behind it, is he taking it on?

Cheers for that. I've had a rediculous amount of interest. I think most people want it for the chassis, axles and manual box. Someone's coming tomorrow morning anyway so hopefully it sells!

It would be a real shame to see it broken for parts.

Well this is awkward.
Its sold pending collection and it will be broken for parts.
Essentially although its a runner and mechanically sound, it has an advisory list as long as my arm for rust all over. I think because of the nature of these cars, i.e. being used in wintery, salty conditions and the fact that it hasn't spent any time laid up since it was new it has suffered a general smattering of corrosion all over the car. every aluminium panel has frilly edges, the front inner wings are holed all the way along and while the rest is currently sound the surface rust to the sills, boot floor and rear half of the chassis is pretty well advanced. Its not a viable restoration project so it was either going to go to someone wanting a cheap winter hack, parts for a defender conversion to a V8 manual or just broken for parts. Now it is going to a well known land rover and V8 specialist so I'm happy that it will be supplying some good spares that will live on and keep other cars on the road. Its just the way it is sometimes.
