As I'm struggling to prise my mother in law's hands off the wheel of Muttley, the teal green MR2 mk2, I've recently wangled a bargain basement project car.
Using a recent 'big' birthday as leverage to convince my wife that a fourth vehicle would be an excellent idea I bagged another tintop red rev 2 mk2 with some tasty wheels, a solid body and a knocking engine (someone had fitted the later more powerful rev 3 unit)
£200 lighter I trailered my prize the fifty odd miles home, squinting in the vans rear view mirror I was deluding myself how Ferrariesque it looked.
The guy I bought it from partially fitted a new clutch partially stripped the interior then thrashed it round the Aintree circuit for ten minutes until it made a nasty clattery sound.
As I live fifteen miles from a hill climb circuit and the Welsh hills and EVO triangle are on my doorstep it would be a shame not to lighten the car further, whack some grippy rubber on and see what I can extract from the chassis.
As for engine options another rev 3 unit would be another £200 or a V6 3vz (easiest of the V6 swaps) as an outside option.
I'd like to keep the spirit of the project 'dirt cheap' basically
If someone can tell me how to upload photos I'll show progress so far
