Some of my best bargains have been in many peoples nope categories. A one line fb add with no pics netted me the second oldest mk2 gti 5 door in the country for 150 (needing a resto obviously).
The mrs picked up a 91 mini unfinished project last w/e. My husbands a mechanic so has done most of the welding said the seller. Mmm, pidgeon pooped mot plates here and there, but it was cheap and pretty straightforward to sort properly

I agree that some of these have actually drawn me to vehicles in the past. If somebody spells everything wrong, or incorrectly identifies the specifics of a vehicle in an ad, it's more likely to be overlooked and therefore less likely to get aggressively up-bidded. I have never NOPED an ad based on bad spelling or a lack of knowledge. Case in point, I was looking for a Bedford CF2 and somebody had listed one as a Ford Transit through nothing but sloppy attention total ignorance of the vehicle (I presume they saw bedFORD and assumed the rest). I got that very cheaply.
Also, sometimes, when people are optimistically saying "Should be easy to resolve the technical issue that means it wont run" I tend to ask lots of questions about it and generally come to the conclusion that it doesn't run because of something that is actually very simple, and the seller is not technically knowledgeable enough to deal with it and is panic selling because they think it's a brick.
In fact, in some ways, that was almost the situation with my Scim in the sense that it had a misfire which the owner declared upfront. The car ran fine otherwise and I had the hunch it merely needed a few low-cost bits to sort it out. First day I had it I found two snapped spark plugs... it's never mis-fired since.

Been FULLY restored. Got an invoice then? Or paint receipts? Photographs, build thread? Anything? No thanks. Or I ask for SPECIFIC photos as car is a long way off and explain this and get back"that area is good"?? Send the bloody brightly lit photos then and I'll buy it.....morons!

Adverts that leave the very last picture to show that it's had a serious thump, usually leaving damage that only a professional body shop could take on.

Thats basically worth whatever bits are left in a usable condition from the original car - so maybe a few hundred quid ? This leads me to another thing thats a instant no - when someone has advertised it as something then you find out they have lumped in a dubious engine from something else.... but just that as they have now ran out of basic intelligence and skill - not running , no wiring , no plumbing , no trans or shafts etc etc etc . Basically ruined it !

And seeing as it has had the bulkhead/tunnel chopped about will require an IVA test, which it won't stand a hope in hell of passing unless a shed load of time and money are spent on replacing all the old dangerous pointy bits with modern radiused parts etc etc etc, loosing its visual appeal as a classic merc......absolute bargain!!

I will also add repairs that have been welded in which are just straight steel where it should be shaped. Floor panels and sills that now have no strength because they have no pressings in them. They will crumple like a wet wosit in a accident. Lovely example in this months practical classics rolls Royce.

I'm sure you'll find some clown who'll proudly announce that the repairs have been carried out with steel thicker than the original so therefore much stronger than the original.
Worthy of a slow shake of the head then walk away muttering about their mental capacity.

To be fair though we all learned once and have likely made horrible mistakes along the way.

I had a mate when i was younger who had a MG midget . He asked me over to give him a hand repairing the sills . I got there and asked them were the new ones where and he showed be some sheet steel . He happened to be a agricultural engineer which meant he thought he new everything . Then he hacked it up with a grinder and tacked it on . Smacked it with a hammer to fit ..
Bodger.
The problem is he saw nothing wrong with that . He also repaired my mates rusty MR2 lower arch/sill in the same way . Big thick grinding disc on angle grinder and gouge out 60% of the rust leaving big gashes - don't bother stripping back the rest of the area. Then find some scrap metal , in this case some 4mm bit of flat strip and cut them up . Push them in and put some pigeon mess on them to just about hold them to some wafer thin rust ridden bodywork.
Cover in a 2 inch layer of filler and spend hours shaping it - bloody chimp he saw nothing wrong with it and could not understand that filler is meant for imperfections !

I've used these pictures before, but feel they need to be used again. This was from a body shop that only deal with "proper" repairs, and do repairs for insurance companies . I especially love the fact that the colour doesn't match at all

I especially love the fact that the colour doesn't match at all I am no panel beater but i have worked alongside a few and they would have had 95% of that knocked out in 30 minutes . I cannot say i know enough about the trade but i assume they are just taught to replace rather than repair so have no skills . My guy i used to work with used to get piecework for knocking out dents at £10 a time with a carpark full of them . Quite sad to think that people cannot even be arsed to do that know .
