Browsing various ads just looking during lunch and was reading the description when I read
"Smoke appears from dash if lights turned off"
Oh, nothing too serious or dangerous then...
What are your instant NOPE?

No V5 / documents.
Any problems with the car can be dealt with in one way or another but a car without any documents rings alarm bells as to whether the person that happens to have the key has the right to sell it.

No MOT but will fly through... spend 50 on a test and bump up the price then...
Or the picture of the car in question, if it's filthy, it's always filthy hence not looked after if they couldn't even throw a bucket of water over it to sell it

It goes a lot further than that with me - poorly worded / constantly misspelling in ads makes think why the hell would I want to deal with this bloke he can't even spell / advertise the vehicle correctly - I appreciate that some vendors may be unfortunately dyslexic but in these days of auto spell check - then again maybe they don't know how to turn a spell check feature on in the first place! - It's still NOPE

No MOT but will fly through... Grinds my gears too. Always suspicious of a car with <month MoT too, smacks of 'I put in early, and the fix it cost are twice the price I'm asking for this 'bargain'...' Badly worded? 'I sel dis car' was all one said, with a couple of blurry interior shots. Wasn't even sure what car he was selling.....

Photos are a big one if sellers can't be bothered to take some decent snaps. I'd also say Nope to ads where the pictures are upside down too!

Anything with 'Barn Find' in the title or description and then the pictures show a damp rotting hulk sitting in a yard. Speaking of which, any car with that (just washed) damp spot around on the driveway, unless of course they state 'Car looks good when wet'... fair enough! NO MESSRZ!

It's even worse if the ad is halfway decently written but doesn't have a phone number listed so you contact them via e-mail and they write like a 12 year old dyslexic on crack. "Hello, I would like to come view your advertised car. Is it still available?" - "ya man still thur cum luk at it tmr"... "Yeah, no, thank you."

A reg plate covered up in photos. I can understand why private sellers want to do this for security reasons but in these days when we can check MOT history online it looks like they've got something to hide. If it's dealer doing this then I'll avoid them like the plague.

private plate worth almost as much as the car is being sold for
tell you what, take the plate off and keep it, I'll pay you the difference for the car

No MOT but will fly through... spend 50 on a test and bump up the price then... Or the picture of the car in question, if it's filthy, it's always filthy hence not looked after if they couldn't even throw a bucket of water over it to sell it First thing to say is, i traveled 400+ miles and bought my Mondeo after discounting it because the 2 adds were the worst i had seen to that point! Having been on the lookout to replace the dailys ever since then, i've have had so many NOPE moments. The above MOT thing started by "I'm not a mechanic, but........", usually with the reg blanked out or not in any pictures. Some do slip up though and you soon find out its a fail sheet as long as your arm! Usually look beyond the murk though as i'm not the best at looking after the daily's. But i expect that when i turn up to look at it that its clean enough for a start and in some cases, roadworthy! The way an add is written is not too important as around my way, there are plenty eastern Europeans around all looking for a bit of the local car market. If its done in teen/text speak, then i am not interested as it paints a picture that is usually confirmed if i get past the NOPE stage. No V5 usually rings all manner of alarm bells and i really don't want to spend time and money applying for new documents.

You've taken a picture of the badge that says 'Cavalier' and you can't copy the word? Even worse when the model or make is completely wrong. '1999 Polo for sale' and there's twelve photos of a Golf? NOPE!

Have to say.. yes i agree wih all of your points here chaps. But if you learn to deal with these issues and overcome it (and laugh in your head at the punter when in front of you) you sometimes usually pick a right bargain up! I have..

Lots of ads out there like this. Thing is, and I suppose I'm not the only one, typing in a few key words brings up a wealth of info which, 90% of the time, tells you that the issue is not what the vendor is suggesting it is or that it COULD be that but umpteen other things too.

Lots of things bug me about todays car selling public, but my top hates are upside down photos, whats the point? I wont even look at the ad, text speak, I can forgive bad spelling, and poor grammer in a ad, but text speak is unforgivable! I don't even use it in texts, to be fair I H8 it! The other thing is Classified Ads on auction sites, I don't even look at them... Ever! Mercdan68 where is that Corvair for sale? I need that car, i'll bet the ad says "Ran when parked!"

A car with 1969 plates on it, which is clearly a 100% 1981 spec car. The really annoying thing was, it was local to me and if it had actualy been a 1969 car with 1969 plates i would have been on it like a tramp on chips. And when you ask the seller ''is this a 1981 car pretending to be a 1969 car?'', he ignores you.
