www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182698916717 Absolutely stunning car, and rare at that. Probably my favourite classic since I grew up with Nova's. Never thought I'd see the day a Nova sold for 20k plus. I know it's eBay and the likelihood is it will be relisted due to some 14 year old being the highest bidder. Always said I'd own a Sport one day but not if this is anything to go by!

As with any car (or, indeed, anything at all), its value is whatever someone's willing to pay for it. The nostalgia market for 1980s hot hatches is going nuts right now, this car is just the tip of the iceberg.

I think it is a generational thing.
I was too old to be interested in Nova's, but those that were close to driving age then would lust over it. And if they have the funds now, they can get 'the one that got away'.
Same as I would do, just for different cars...

£24.9k now, still with nearly 8 days to go. Thats mental. I can understand someone having the money to throw at it, but for 2 of them to bid to this point with that time left is...... mental. And where will it end up at? £30k? £40k? £5......... Question is, will it ever be worth more than the figure it sells at this time, or will it peak? I mean, no offence to novas at all, but its a nova. Or does that prove i just don't get it?

Give me 4 of these any day r.ebay.com/sSPajh There are loads of oddities with this auction and I doubt it's proper - though this would be difficult to prove, and I doubt loads of other things as well .... There are so many auctions like this - Caps lock, 'I don't know what it's worth' curse word, strange buy/sell history, and a completely bizarre restoration price. Same as those 999.99 quid USB cables/overpriced IT basic equipment that are quite obviously laundering money, but have still been sold recently to very happy buyers that leave positive feedback for their USB cable that cost a grand.

Like you say, I don't think it will be collected by the winning bidder. Seems to be an awful high price and an awful lot of bidders with 8 days to go.
Never understood why anyone wanting to buy something off eBay doesn't hold off bidding until the last day!!
No bids until the last day surely makes it more affordable

I can only see this being for the extreme hardcore Vauxhall fan or perhaps Rally car collector . I guess it will end up like the 100k plus RS500 and be never used as its a piece of collateral .
All well and good but someone needs to buy it off you when you want and still think they are going to make profit in years to come ? Will this be worth 35k in 5 years ? Who knows , i myself doubt it .
Anyway , as said its worth what someone will pay , hopefully people are not messing around . If someone had one as a kid and wants what is effectively a brand new one and they have the money then knock themselves out . Someone had obviously worked very hard to get it this good .

Whilst I agree there is something odd about this auction and how is being bid so high, so early - along with others that have already commented I find it difficult to accept that it's worth this type of money but just maybe the fast limited edition big money time has come for the Vauxhall brand now that the blue oval market has been exploited beyond the point of no return. I will however take to task your comment 'completely bizarre restoration price' - £20k for a professional restoration is cheap and far from bizarre - anything between 500 - 2000 hours plus can be expended into a professional restoration and any good restorer will be charging £40 + an hour - do the sums, add materials then parts and you can double / treble the £20k quoted - but when I quote professional - I mean professional not some guy with a unit under a leaky railway arch who hides everything in a combination of large doses of filler, seam sealer & underseal

Where Nova's competitive in motorsport when new? Will there be a FIA championship for this car to compete in at some point in the future?
If so, then it may worth the price to someone, I remember how fast and high Lotus Cortina MK1 values jumped when they become eligible for all kinds of FIA competitions, back in the early 1980's.

i just put my 1 owner full history , 35000 miles never welded etc for 2k lol 4 door Yes and its a lovely car! I make no comment about how much this Sport is going to go for apart from stating the obvious, there is still loads of money floating about out there. What strikes me as obvious is that somebody is prepared to pay £20+K for this restored car as opposed to it being an unmolested original one ( yeah i know these are as rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony droppings...until the next half a dozen start appearing for sale in the next few months..)which MAY have justified a bun fight over it. Restored could mean 'Triggers broom' 'Its had replacement doors, rear quarters, hatch, bonnet, slam panel, complete floor and a new engine and gearbox..but apart from that, the VIN is original as is the front seats. People are mental.

Agree with zeb on all that. I thought the same when i read the description and realised its been restored, then i thought 'shouldnt it have wheeltrims?' Then i noticed its got a chrome bonnet hook. I stopped looking any further after that. Its not even concourse as it left the production line, admitidly its very nice but in my mind if you were paying top dollar for a car youd want 100% correct details wouldt you? Mind you with 6 people in bids over £20k and its now over £25k I'm probably just being a fussy anorak.

Putting things in perspective. According to my sources £25000.00 in 1985 money is £8446.00. * The actual price of A Nova Sport in 1985 was Which equates to an appreciation of £7254.96 in 2017 money.* Not an amount to be sniffed at but not a massive lot either - how much would it cost to restore a tatty Nova to the same condition? (*My maths may not be totally accurate so please don't flog me to death over it.)

And back then people did not want the early ones , I'm betting it was less than £1500 back then !
