So I'm planning a stag weekend for a friend and I'm trying to come up with cheap ideas for fun. I was thinking of ride on mower racing but as soon as I made the decision and started my search the supply seemed to completely dry up!
I've got my eye on a couple of old garden motorbikes, but I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas?
There's about 19 of us, and the accommodation is quite expensive, but we've got a field and permission from the owner to use it, so it seemed a lot cheaper to get a couple of motorised vehicles of some kind and have a tournament than the more traditional stag activities. I was quoted £900 for us all to go paintballing for a morning!

Based on the fun per £££ factor (from many years experience) : local go-kart track? (we love this place - nearly local, very fast outdoor circuit kartingnortheast.com/ ) if you already have the field, hire some off-road buggys? Just add cones to make a circuit. get the most shonky landrover you can find, put it in the field - circuit laid out with cones - teams of 2 (driver blindfolded, navigator giving directions, spectators in the back offering "advice" ) - guarenteed fun!

I'm actually taking my land rover up there, so that's not a bad shout. I think the field's big enough that they'd have a hard time crashing it into something!
famous last words!
I've not been able to find anyone that rents that kind of thing out. We'll be in the Lake District, near Ravenglass so we're a bit out of the way.

I used to work with a crowd of petrol-heads, one of our fun days had blindfolded LR driving around a field, simple rules : car is parked in neutral on the start line with engine running, driver gets blindfolded. only allowed to use 1st gear, once you drop the clutch to start moving you're not allowed to use clutch again until you finish (or stall it) try to include a bit of a slope or hill, it feels realy scary when you can't see what's going on teams of 2 (navigator + blindfolded driver) in the front seats, opposing teams are welcome to spectate / help (or not! ) from the back seats Have fun

So you've got the use of a field then? When my lads were young we took a couple of old cars to a mates field where I taught them how to drive, and then decided to have a go myself, which turrned into an impromptu grass tracking session.
So my idea, buy a couple (or more) of the cheapest wrecks you can find (mobile obviously) and have a race!
Either remove glass etc first, or make sure that there's no intentional contact, oh yeah right! lol

I love the idea of this - amazed I've never heard of it before. ( I did full-contact circuit racing for a few years, once done - never forgotten ) Please accept an I.O.U. for 1 RR brownie point - thanks for sharing

Haha, I did think about this, my only concern is tearing it up too badly. We can use the field but it's rented by a farmer so wouldn't want to turn it into a mud track! I've got two mini motos, I'm thinking of setting up a kind of rally-cross event using those. Just concerned they'll be a bit small to deal with anything other than the driveway.
Might go look up some cheap pit bikes - that'd be fun!

As a experience you'll reminisce about as a group for a long time; I'd recommend a top-gear style road trip into Europe. We did this for my stag years back; put people into teams that had to buy a car for a low £X max budget. We met up near the ferry port and headed towards Amsterdam (via ten countries); camp sites and canned beer to keep it cheap. its scalable; don't go as far to reduce petrol costs and time away. Just choose a country/city as your goal. It was actually fairly cheap, and deffinetly worth it; once you factor in selling the cars when (if) you get back home (one team actually made a profit!). I'm not posting pics of Amsterdam...messy...

We'll be in the Lake District, near Ravenglass so we're a bit out of the way. There's indoor Karting at Maryport (about half an hour north) or an outdoor track at Rowrah which is about the same distance away, and also fairly close to the Ennerdale Brewery. The Railway at Ravenglass is interesting if you're into that sort of thing, probably not ideal 'stag do' entertainment, but maybe not so bad if you're all hung over and want something gentle? I also know a friendly farmer up near Egremont who has a quarry which is used for trials by a couple of the local off road clubs, and hoofing pit bikes around by others.

All buy 50cc scooters and head off. See where you can get to! If you're from the North West heading to the west coast of Scotland could be a laugh.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I considered a couple of old cars but the field is used to graze sheep usually and I'm not sure they'd be too pleased if it's fully torn up. Instead I'm going to buy a couple of old mini quad bikes and we'll use those for the racing!
Light enough that it won't do too much damage to the grass and at 50cc, not fast enough to do any real damage if they're crashed.
