Guys,
I'm considering buying a Honda Accord Type R 1998-2002, Accord/Torneo SiR-T (JDM) 1997- 2000 or a Civic Type R (EP3) 2002-2005.
Leaning towards the ATR but I'd really like to hear your views on any of the above.
Cheers,
Woofwoof.

Integra type r dc2 really ought to be on that list, or the ek9. They're the two proper type r cars Honda made (and the nsx R but that's hella rare)

Thanks awoo. Yeah, an NSX R or just a an NSX would be ideal!
I'm afraid my budget is limited to the models listed.

I'd say the Accord, mainly because I think there underrated, also everybody has An EP3

Is the Accord Type R a real thing? Never heard of it.
I'm going to say S2000, but definitely the Civic out of that list.
Did the UK get the EK R?
Never really been a fan of J cars, (I've owned RX7's and Skylines, they aren't that fast and not particularly interesting to me) but my buddies Spoon EK really impressed me.

UK hasn't had it since 2002 though, so that was the mk6 I believe, I have the 2.4 executive (mk 7) which is no slouch, there was a sport version of the mk 7 (same engine as the executive but not as many toys) no type r, I don't think they've even done the sport version of the mk 8.

It depends what you want the car for I suppose. Just my personal view but I think that the Civic Type R is the better looking. I've seen a bog standard Civic Type R at a Castle Combe race day & he was holding his own with the Lotus Elises & Caterhams.

What's the budget for these out of interest? Would have thought an integra would come in along side those options.
Either the civic or the accord would be good choices. I would personally go for the civic as it would be easier to sell on and is a hatch. Saloon would be a bit impractical for me. Also the civic feels a bit quicker I seem to remember.

Recently bought an '05 EP3 and would heartily recommend it. Bonkers engine and the gearbox of the gods. Every drive is a hoot. (Also, has ISOFIX and is reasonably spacious, so you can get a family of four in there too!) DSC_0016 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_0005 by dbizzle_, on Flickr

Awoo, the budget is 2.5K tops. I know where you are coming from with an Integra and the same with earlier Civic Type R mentioned above in some of the posts but I don't want either. To give you an idea of where I'm coming from. If I do buy an ATR for example it will be a practical car to use for all the mundane daily duties and here's the bit I like about it, it's so easy to remove the rear spoiler and delete the R badges and change the 'H' badges front & rear. So, it doesn't shout out or stand out and it's useful but still it drives just like an ATR should, the same with SiR-T and the Civic looks restrained anyway. Practical, performance car/s for a modest budget is my logic and nobody will pay a blind bit of notice. Winner!

Ok cool I get where you're coming from.
For what it's worth though, I have a dc2 and use it like a van. Rear seats are always down but I fit six bikes in the back once and one time (a really stupid time) got 50 double glazing units in it but had to take the passenger seat out to do it.
Great car. I bought mine in 2007 for £2600 needing work. Been great ever since though.
Even so the atr is a goodun too. Only thing which seems a bit rubbish is that it drops out of vtec when you change gear, which always seemed daft to me.

Awoo. I heard that too about it dropping out of Vtec. Is that really correct? I honestly don't know but I'm rather surprised.

£2.5k tops seems a bit on the low side for an EP3, not saying there aren't examples out there for that but it's the bottom end of the market, I think you'd probably get a much nicer Accord for the money.

Andy88, you are spot on right. But i have been keeping an eye on eBay and it's possible to get a sub 100k car for £2200-2500. Now what the real condition is like compared to the eBay advert is another thing entirely. The thing about most ATR's is the mileage as the vast majority have well passed the 100k mark. Of course mileage is not the be all and end all, it can even be a very poor guide to the actual condition of a car. Thanks anyway for your input.

I used a car-buying service (Palmdale) to get mine, and they rejected literally dozens of EP3s before finding this one. There's a *lot* of crappy ones out there. Tread carefully. Get them inspected properly before committing.

O.k. guys. Thanks for your input. I think I've made my mind up in so far as I've ruled out the EP3 as my budget is too small.
I think I'll get off my butt now and go and look at both an ATR and the SiR-T.

To chuck a bit more confusion into the ring, I helped my brother buy an EP3 earlier this year, was a very tidy example and was in the budget you mention. Sure there were a couple of dings around the bodywork but the car itself was sound I had a little drive in it and it was a right laugh, nice steering, slightly nuts engine and a really slick gearshift, would certainly recommend Edit: To echo the other comments on EP3's though, the majority of the cars in the price range certainly looked a bit ropey, I think it was a case of right place, right time
