After many years of training and grueling stuff I find myself in the bronze position at 63.75 years. First car lusted over was the e type Jagwar, although when my dad bought a mk1 lotus tina in about 64 I'm sure I must have wet myself. What a wagon !!!! First car owned was a 1959 Consul 3 speed column change, with very useful bench seats. Big ends went after about six months. After that it was Wolseley 1500, Austin Champ, Spitfire, Vitesse, Mk1 v6 capri, Moggy van, 56 splitscreen (3ltr straight 6), Mk1 Scort Van (RS 2000 motor, box n susp), Vauxhall Ventora (v8 Rov power), Vauxhall Magnum, Mk1 Toyota Hiace, Bedford CF 2, Tina 1600E, Not in that order and I'm sure there are a lot more, but can't remember. What I have lusted over, and what I WOULD wet myself over, is a Mk2 Alvis Stalwart 6x6 amphibious truck. Then turn up at a 4x4 meeting and look down at them and say something like " where do the big boys off road then ". Ho ho.

I'm nearly 52. I cannot remember a time when I wasn't into cars, I was a child of the 60s, a time when you knew the make of a car just by the sound of it. Ford Crossflows, the whine of an Anglia gearbox or the screech of a V4 Transit, I knew them all. I spent my summer holidays out with my Dad, he was a breakdown mechanic in London, worked for Moons Motors and drove an Series 1 Landy with a hand winch with an old PYE radio in it. Depending on what Landy he drove he was 'Moon Dog' or 'Moon Charlie' to the 'controller'. This was the early 70s, he was one of the first mechanics to get to grips with DAFs which were, by then, really coming into the UK en masse. It was also the first time I saw a Simca Van, it was the only wagon on the fleet and pulled cars using a tow buoy. My Dad reckoned it was VERY good at towing and working from. Later in the 70s, around 74, he went to work for Arcade Motors ( still going IIRC) he had a new 6 Cylinder Jeep with electric winch. Part of a fleet, they also had a Ford D300 which was powered by a D1000 lump, a beast apparently. Off the back of all this, its not too surprising that Ive never been loyal to one make of car, Scimitars asides, Ive felt it necessary to own different makes and models as often as possible. Dream cars? Well a 68 Charger is the ultimate but a Jensen Interceptor or a Wolesely 6/110 would do me nicely. Failing all of that, I shall just keep owning as many cars as I can. One thing I will say, thanks to 26 years of doing a physical job, my back, knees and neck are knackered. It makes working on cars a mega chore now.

I'm 48 going on 18, always into cars, bikes and building things. When i was 16 and riding my Fizzie there was a bloke on the bins that lived round the corner from me who was into cycle racing, he carried his bikes to races on the roof of his old Reliant Regal strapped to one of those roof racks with the rubber suckers and two wind down straps, he was always polishing it (the car not the roof rack). I noticed that the old Reliant hadn't moved for a while so knocked on his door and told his mum i'd buy it off him. A couple of days later it was mine for the sum of £60. After moving it into a borrowed garage, finding out that he'd stopped using it because a half shaft seal was leaking and nearly killing myself with an exploding hub puller (long story and i still hate them), i sold it on (with leaking seal and bloody great dents in the roof from that flippin roof rack) to a bloke who answered my advert, seemed really gentle on the phone. The giant biker ( i think he said he was 6' 7") that stood on my doorstep to collect it and stank of booze, sweat and grease could have had it for free if he'd shouted BOO, but, he took it off my hands for £120 and my career as a wannabe prestige car dealer failed from then on. Cars on the bedroom wall were Lambo Countache and Escort RS2000 Custom, cars parked outside the house were 1975 Escort MK2 1300L in Carnival red and Escort MK1 1100 auto estate in some sort of laquer peeling metalic purple. Now the kids are coming to that point and I'm looking for cars/bikes for them and its bloody hard getting the interest up with modern stuff thats insurance friendly and still interesting, especially as i want something american and juicy and they need something insurance friendly and boring. HO HUM.

A mere 48. My dream car at 9 years old was a TR7. I never really lusted after anything one car in particular but most of my life the dream was probably a 911, but now the recent ones are "corporate and corpulent" [TM] Quentin Willson, and the ones that were dream cars will remain so due to stratospheric prices.
First car was a 1986 Ford Fiesta Popular Plus in 957cc guise. But that was in 1988, so very much 'nearly new' compared to most.

52 next month.
Dad was an enthusiastic (usually) tinkerer when I was a nipper, and had a network of petrolhead mates. Most of which seemed to gravitate towards our driveway of a Sunday morning, chain-smoking, drinking tea and indulging in 1970s petrolhead banter. Certainly that's what made me take an interest in cars.
Nice to know things don't change!

At 67, I've always had a passion for cars, starting regrettably with a 1988 36 hp VW.. Then got a Mitsubishi Colt 1100 new in 1968 and followed up with the 1100 SS in 1971 and a Mitsubishi Lancer in the 80's. Had a Mk1 Zephyr in there somewhere and now into a Toyota Corolla. A speedway fanatic, I have built and raced TQ's and Formula 500's on Aussie dirt tracks and am currently in process of restoring a late 80's car which raced here in WA. Love metal shaping and learning about it, but no longer physically able to do more than the basics, but I have fun tryin. My claim to fame was running a Suzukt RG 500 bike engine on methanol and fuel injecting ir with McGee Fuel injection from a 2180cc VW speedcar engine

Lusted after a Lagonda LG45
First car 1954 Sunbeam Talbot 90, followed by 1951 Alvis TA21, then 1962 MG 1100.
First Jaguar - 1967 S-Type - in 1977 thereafter Rovers and Jaguars as personal cars, but have suffered Renault and Mercedes Benz as company cars.
Currently Jaguar X358 Super V8 - the last UK market one in this specification according to JLR records.
Evidently genetic. No 1 son - Jaguar X308 LWB nasp and Mazda MX-5. Passed UK driving test in one of my Rover 820's. No 2 son - Daimler X308 Super V8 and Mazda MX-5. Passed RSA driving test in company car. No 3 son - Rover 820 and Vitesse - no MX-5 as he is too tall to fit. Passed UK driving test in another of my Rover 820's. Anxiously awaiting turning 25 so he can afford to insure the XK8 he's lusting after!
Never gelled with the XJ-S and still waiting for the Ian Callum styling to grow on me - without conspicuous success.

Another 69-er here (70th birthday in a month's time!). This photo was taken in the spring of 1947 - you can just see my head through the windscreen (by the steering wheel) of my father's supercharged Austin Seven: As it happened, my first car was a similar Austin Opal, here seen in the Goyt Valley (now under water) near Buxton in 1964: As for the cars I lusted after in my youth, that would be the Bristol 401 and 403 models, and the Jaguar XK120.

62, recently retired and needed a new hobby to keep body and mind active! I have always had an interest in cars but never enough spare money to indulge other than a brief foray into road rallying in 1980 and 81 (mexico with twincam engine... I gave the shell away!!!!). Before I retired I bought a (Zetec powered) Westfield to play with, it was fun but, I felt under-powered so stuck a ST170 engine in it, bolted on some Hayabusa throttle bodies plus cams and now it is really too fast (for the road/my driving abilities). That also got me into aftermarket ecu's, which could be a hobby by itself! Then I bought a decent looking TR7 (looks can, and were deceptive) but four years on it is nearly finished and should see me out! In the meantime I have bought a Fiat X1/9 in near perfect condition with low miles plus just imported another TR7 (convertible) from Arizona (never seen rain or salt) with a SBCevvy motor fitted, that will be fun to sort out since the rest of the car is bog standard ...including the brakes!!! So those should see me through to 65(ish)!

I'm 36 and always lusted after rally cars of my teens, used to love watching the Lombard rally and the rallycross on grandstand. I ended upi at 16 with a mk2 escort 1600 sport that my old man found me for £600. It ended up stripped out, cage, buckets & harnesses, obligatory 4 spotlights and straight through exhaust.

I've been on the wrong side of 50 for a while. I've never lusted after anything new, but I have over vintage cars. Specially the Lotus Eleven and the Alfa Romeo TZ1. The first car I bought with my own money was a 1972 Fiat 500 that was painted with a brush ( done by somebody who knew how to paint a car with a brush) After a couple of years as a daily driver I went a little crazy on it ( with time & money spent ) I wish I still had it, but its in a museum in Miami now...
