don't see to many of these. Its a 1977 Toyopet Corona Mx31. These were also badged as a chaser with a different trim level. Being an MX31 its super rare and i have yet to find another one.(There scarce even in japan). Its got a 2.0 6 cylinder ME-U efi engine. And is fitted with TTC-C (Toyota Total Clean-Catalysor) And also a very early lean burn system.

She sat in a shed for a year after it was imported to ireland.Very scarcely seeing the Irish weather. About 2 months ago i put it on the road as my daily driver. There great cars to drive everyday with every extra you can imagine. This is when it got interesting. After about a week it overheated and blew the headgasket.(No problem most would say). Went to toyota first who laughed at me saying they didint even know what the car was.I literally searched every corner of the world for this gasket and found someone in australia who claimed to have the correct one, which i ordered. It arrived 2 weeks later so i got to work stripping the engine.

Always meant to get down to take some pictures of this when Myles had it. Couldn't believe it took so long to sell, I should have bought it instead of the Cosmo. Serious car, JDM all day long. Everything is perfect in my opinion, even the imperfections help make it. Fair play to you buying it, and great to see it is being enjoyed.
Be great to see this at one of the Japanese Retro & Classic Ireland meets!

I had one of these in the UK super rare car over here. the electric wing mirrors are quite funky. I paid £600 for mine. I think long since scrapped now though. really slow but looking back it would have been easy to fit a Celica Supra engine. if only.... mine had a little bell in the dash that tinkled constantly at anything over 62 mph. got a little annoying but I never disconnected it.

Back to the internet again emailing every japanese car website i could find, making endless phonecalls untill someone suggested having a gasket custom made.I found a company in thailand Gasketstogo.com to which i mailed the old gasket to. We agreed on a price (Very reasonable) and this is what i recieved in return.

that's the only picture I have. must be around 1990 when I had it. apparently brought to the UK in 1984 for the Hong Kong embassy (story I was told). hence the A plate.
highly specked for the year. disc brakes all round, independent rear suspension (4dr had leaf springs), air conditioning, deep carpets, electric pillarless windows, power steering etc and as you say fuel injection with catalytic converter. not bad for '77.
was in really nice condition with only very minor bubbles of rust under the paint on the front wings and boot lid when I sold it.
desperately needed more get up and go though. was just way too slow with the 2.0 six cylinder and automatic gearbox.

Afaik this car is called Cressida coupe in most of Europe, and my brothers girlfriend has a beatiful green one. My brother owns the rather famous blue four door that drifts everywhere including Nürburgring, and my father just bought a bone stock mint condition blue four door as well:) One of the nicest 'yotas ever made if you ask me:) Loving the colour on yours, looking forward to seeing more:)
